Quality Assurance Engineer -- Web UI & Automation
Location: Remote (Candidates local to Rosemont, IL preferred; hybrid schedule required upon conversion -- 2 days onsite per week)
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire (6--12 month contract with conversion to full-time)
Our client is seeking a Quality Assurance Engineer specializing in Web UI and Automation. This role focuses on ensuring the quality, performance, and reliability of web applications supporting critical user experiences.
The Quality Assurance Web & Automation Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of new features as well as improvement of existing functionality across internal and external Web applications. This includes Integration testing, Customer Data Quality testing, Usability (Functional and Performance) testing, Regression testing etc.
This is a hands-on testing position which requires deep knowledge and understanding of all aspects of creating test cases and executing Front-end as well as Back-end validation. The ideal candidate must possess strong analytical and critical thinking abilities. Exceptional Manual testing as well as Automated testing skills are required
As a motivated and self-driven member of the Technology organization, the Quality Assurance Web & Automation Engineer will be responsible for assuring consistent, high quality testing standards are utilized on all products and systems. The Test Engineer will interface with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Software Developers, End Users and Scrum Masters to deliver products with high quality and on schedule. This position is heavily focused on automation.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Review business requirements, functional specifications, use cases, design, and architecture documents to create effective, value-add test cases.
- Identify issues in data, application configurations and screen designs, report and oversee issue resolution.
- Plan and execute Manual, Functional, and Regression test suite.
- Develop, execute, and maintain Automated Regression suite.
- Independently develop, modify, and execute test plans based on requirements and design documents.
- Identify, report and track defects and User Experience issues through a system of record.
- Collaborate with internal teams on root cause analysis.
- Maintain close interaction with business and technical peers during the project life cycle.
- Ensuring proper traceability from requirements to test artifacts.
- Actively participate in requirements and code reviews.
- Actively participate and drive improvements in Agile Scrum delivery.
- Creation and input of test data, either manually or by using tools, programs, or masked production data to execute test cases.
Position Requirements:
- 8 years of QA experience across test strategy, design, execution, and reporting
- Strong hands-on experience in:
- Manual testing and regression testing (strategy, maintenance, execution)
- Test automation tools (Selenium, TestComplete, UFT, etc.)
- SQL for data validation and analysis (including complex joins)
- API testing for backend validation
- Proven experience developing and maintaining test automation frameworks
- Experience working in Agile and/or Waterfall environments
- Deep understanding of software development and testing lifecycle best practices
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify root causes and support resolution
- Experience with tools such as Jira, ALM, TFS/ADO, or similar systems
- Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing and maintaining C#-based automation frameworks
- Strong experience with Selenium integrated with C#
- Experience with or exposure to Playwright (or interest in transitioning to it)
- Experience with scripting languages (Python, JavaScript, PowerShell, etc.)
- Experience in mobile testing
Nice-to-Have / Emerging Skills
- Experience using AI in QA workflows (test case generation, debugging, automation, etc.)
- Familiarity with prompt engineering and large language models (LLMs)
- Experience with:
- Framework architecture and test framework migration
- Transitioning from Selenium to Playwright
- Advanced Playwright capabilities (Microsoft Playwright ecosystem)
- Agentic or AI-driven testing approaches
