Role Overview

This office-based role is responsible for Relay Protection and Control engineering, including detailed design for high voltage substations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, elementary diagrams, and relay panel front view layouts.
  • Perform AC/DC Load Calculations, Battery sizing, and cable sizing.
  • Make decisions regarding engineering complexities and methods, utilizing advanced techniques and modifying theories, precepts, and practices in relation to electrical power systems.
  • Effectively plan, organize, estimate, schedule, coordinate, and monitor work activities, and coordinate design activities with other multi-discipline project team members.
  • Produce thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, and calculations.
  • Provide engineering and technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems.
  • Ensure design activities comply with applicable codes, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to developing engineers within the department.
  • Support company goals and represent the company positively and professionally.
  • Continuously improve job-related, engineering technical, and professional knowledge, skills, and performance.
  • Perform QA/QC on protection and control design packages and verify design compliance with scope documents.

Candidate Specification

We are seeking a team player comfortable liaising with internal and external stakeholders, with exceptional communication skills (oral and written). You possess a strong work ethic and take pride and accountability in your duties and accomplishments. You have extensive experience in consulting environments and understand the importance of keeping all parties involved in a project updated.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or higher.
  • 5 or more years of experience in protection and control for high voltage substation design.
  • Knowledge of protective relaying and principles of automation and control for Schweitzer, Siemens, Areva, or ABB protective relay products.
  • Proficiency in creating one-line and three-line diagrams, schematics for protective relays (including microprocessor relays), control schematics, alarm systems, auxiliary power, and AC/DC load calculations, and wiring diagrams.
  • Experience with electrical utility switching stations/substations and basic knowledge of electrical station equipment (e.g., transformers, circuit breakers, medium voltage switchgear, gas-insulated stations (GIS), regulators, capacitor banks, fiber optic communication, and their protection & controls).
  • Knowledge and experience with protective relay schemes and applications, fiber optic communication, SCADA, metering, AC & DC power distribution and controls, alarms, and equipment monitoring systems.
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized accredited institution.

  • Expected salary range: $91,000 - $111,000.
