SQL DBA Lead
Location: Remote
Experience: 12 years
Responsibilities
- Provides leadership for the DBA team, identifying work priorities and ensuring effective communication within the team and with external partners/stakeholders.
- Creates a healthy interpersonal and team-oriented environment.
- Should be customer service minded and develops and maintains cordial, effective partnerships with business area and other Services employee-partners.
- Ensures business area satisfaction with regular interaction and by managing expectations, understanding service level expectations and delivering solutions in a timely and cost-effective fashion.
- Supervises vendor performance and contractor resources and ensures they are performing competently and that client is receiving services aligned with contractual terms and conditions.
- Ensures that Cognizant's best practices are followed for the delivery, implementation and maintenance of client DBA by team members and contractors.
- Use critical thinking and project management discipline, tools and techniques in the day to day execution of responsibilities and in resource and workload planning.
- Ensure the timely correction of any bugs and vendor supplied patches and new releases related to DBA infrastructure.
- Develop a common understanding of service level expectations with the business areas and regularly review the business areas' measures and impressions of service level delivery; work collaboratively to develop solutions to bridge the gap.
- Ensure appropriate resources are in place to meet delivery expectations. Ensure appropriate training, knowledge-transfer takes place to meet these expectations.
- Monitor, and provide effective supervision of, contractor/consultant service delivery and service billings to ensure they are accurate and that performance continues to align with statements of work.
- Collaborate and work effectively with other IS teams/resources in delivering required solutions. Communicate unambiguously and listen effectively, ensure organizational messages are delivered in a timely way to team members, that issues and concerns are addressed and foster open communication among team members.
- Clarify performance expectations and help team members achieve success through coaching, mentoring and providing effective and timely feedback, recognizing accomplishments and providing discipline when appropriate.
- Ensure team adherence to standard DBA practices/policies.
- Should have around 10 years of related experience, including management and operation of enterprise DBA services and DBA infrastructure.

- SQL DBA - Admin Core Tasks:
- Checking health of SQL Server
- Checking sessions details
- Checking error logs
- Create logins & users and fix any issues
- Knowledge on databases, Objects and DMV
- Monitoring & fixing alerts
- Database Backup & Restore
- SQL Job Creation and Fixing Failures
- Database Encryption (L2/L3 level)
- SQL Server Patching (L2/L3 level)
- SQL Server Upgrade / Migration (L2/L3 level)
- Understanding SQL Server Performance (L2/L3 level)
- Checking Blocking issues
- Checking Deadlock issues
- Query tuning
- Index maintenance
- Working Knowledge on High Availability (L2/L3 level)
- Log shipping
- Mirroring
- Always-on AG
- Working Knowledge on SQL Server Replication (L2/L3 level)
- Linked Server Issues Fixing SPN & Delegation (L2/L3 Level)
- MS Azure (IaaS) - Working knowledge is a plus
- Understanding & Writing T-SQL, PowerShell Scripts
- Azure SQL
