Department Overview
Electric Operations ensures the delivery of clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy to nearly 16 million people in Northern and Central California. The Electric Operations Team is responsible for ensuring the electric grid's reliability and resiliency through the ongoing maintenance and operations of PG&E's 100,000 miles of distribution lines and over 18,000 miles of Transmission lines.
Position Summary
The Operations Data Analyst extracts operations data for analysis, leadership support, and responses to ad hoc data requests. The incumbent maintains operations tools and databases, ensuring they are kept up-to-date using data from various PG&E systems. They develop, maintain, and enhance operational metric database tools for the broader analytics team(s).
Key Functions
- Project Management: Manages data management projects from initial request to presenting data results, ensuring completion within budget and on-time.
- Data Processing: Creates automated data routines and processes for reporting and data delivery, ensuring accurate data manipulation and cleansing.
- Data Extracts and File Transfers: Manages extracting and transferring data from databases to support operational analysis efforts.
- Data Analysis: Analyzes data using various statistical tools to develop ad hoc reports, statistics, trends, and profiles.
- Reporting: Develops and communicates clear, concise, and actionable data analyses for clients.
Compensation
- Bay Area Range: $126,000 - $200,000
- CA Range: $120,000 - $190,000
- This position is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage complex data analysis projects with limited supervision.
- Design data analysis to achieve business objectives, process data, and tailor communications to specific audiences.
- Manage complex data extracts and list pulls ensuring data accuracy.
- Analyze data using advanced statistical tools to develop complex ad hoc reports, trends, and profiles.
- Provide innovative solutions to enhance databases with new data sources and improved processes.
- Act as a team lead and provide direction to less experienced employees.
- Work with Directors and Managers across functions to influence decisions.
Qualifications
Minimum
- Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 6 years of job-related experience.
Desired
- Master's Degree or equivalent experience.
- Familiarity with utility operations.
- Advanced skill in Microsoft Excel/Access (complex formulas, graphing, VBA).
- Advanced skill in writing SQL queries using Oracle or Business Objects.
- Experience with Python and Python libraries (Pandas, Statsmodels).
- Strong knowledge of base-SAS and programming languages such as Visual Basic, Perl, C.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and influence skills.
- Advanced project management skills to lead cross-functional teams.
