About Peppermint
Peppermint is building a food-data platform for health and wellness. We capture grocery purchase signals, normalize them into structured nutrition data, and create products for both consumer and B2B applications. Our core thesis is that nutrition behavior change requires a passive, longitudinal approach, moving beyond manual food logging.
What's Already Working:
- MyPlate.food: A free USDA-based nutrition calculator that achieved 30K MAU in its first month, primarily through organic Google traffic, ranking in the top 3 for core queries. The current user base includes students, teachers, hospitals, and nutritionists across the US. It is anonymous, unmonetized, and has had zero acquisition spend.
- Peppermint (iOS App): A consumer app launching soon on the App Store, offering longitudinal nutrition insights derived from receipts and barcodes without manual food logging.
- Underlying Data Platform: A catalog of over 1.8 million US food products with comprehensive nutrition facts, ingredients, tags, Google Product Taxonomy coverage, and retailer-specific SKUs. User data from Peppermint further enriches this platform.
Responsibilities:
You will co-shape the following areas:
- MyPlate Monetization: Developing paid offerings for educators, clinics, nutrition professionals, and partners.
- Peppermint Launch & Growth: Managing the external beta, App Store launch, early user acquisition, retention strategies, and messaging.
- B2B API / SaaS Pipeline: Building offerings for nutrition platforms, GLP-1 programs, dietitian software, metabolic health apps, fertility clinics, and employer wellness programs.
- Customer Discovery & Pilots: Engaging with potential customers, gathering insights, and converting promising conversations into pilots and revenue.
- Product Direction: Collaborating on strategic decisions regarding market focus and initial product development.
Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience in sales or acquisition for B2B SaaS, health tech, or consumer subscriptions.
- Comfort working in a small, two-person team, managing outreach, experiments, and customer interactions directly.
- Genuine interest in food, nutrition, metabolic health, GLP-1s, CGMs, consumer nutrition, or employer wellness.
- Clear and precise communication skills, particularly in asynchronous collaboration tools like Slack and Notion.
- Full-time commitment to drive the company forward at an early-stage pace.
Nice to Haves:
- Background in health tech, food tech, nutrition, CPG, or wellness.
- Existing network within the GLP-1, metabolic, fertility, or employer wellness sectors.
- Experience scaling a consumer mobile app from its inception.
- Previous founder experience or experience as a very early employee in a startup.
Working Together:
We will begin with a 2-month trial period:
- Month 1 (Non-vesting): Strategy Sprint: Develop a go-to-market plan covering MyPlate monetization, Peppermint launch, and target B2B verticals.
- Month 2 (Vesting begins): Embedded Execution: Work collaboratively within the business, utilizing tools like Google Workspace, Slack, and Notion, engaging in customer conversations, outreach, and experiments.
- Day 60: If mutually agreed, we will formalize a co-founder agreement with significant equity (standard 4-year vest/1-year cliff, credited from Day 31). Cash compensation will commence upon securing funding.
Our approach prioritizes careful selection and building a strong foundation.
About Me:
I have 17 years of software engineering experience, including 5 years at Instacart where I developed Instacart Health, established partnerships with Kaiser Permanente and Medicare, and received 5 patents in ML/AI.
