Technical Sales Engineer
Job summary
Work model
COMPANY
Our client is a global technology company focused on embedded connectivity and edge computing solutions for connected devices. Their products are used across a wide range of industrial, medical, and commercial applications, helping customers accelerate development timelines, simplify integration, and bring secure connected products to market.
The company has an established international presence, long product lifecycles, and a strong reputation within the embedded systems and wireless connectivity ecosystem.
THE ROLE
This opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys both the technical and commercial sides of customer engagement. The Technical Sales Engineer will work closely with OEM customers, demand-creation partners, distribution channels, and internal engineering teams to drive new business opportunities around embedded wireless and compute technologies.
This is not a traditional support-focused application role. The successful candidate will be expected to combine technical credibility with commercial ownership, qualify opportunities, lead early customer conversations, work closely with channel partners, and help move suitable projects toward design-in and production. The role requires someone who can understand the engineering detail, but also knows how to prioritize opportunities, create momentum, and contribute directly to revenue growth.
The position combines technical consulting, opportunity qualification, customer discovery, pipeline development, and design-in support. You will help customers evaluate solutions, understand system requirements, identify project fit, and guide qualified opportunities from initial engagement through production.
This is a highly customer-facing role where success depends on strong technical credibility, commercial instincts, and the ability to build trusted relationships with engineering, purchasing, channel partners, and business stakeholders.
The position is remote within California, with occasional travel to customer and partner sites across the region.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work closely with demand-creation and distribution partners to uncover, qualify, and develop new design-in opportunities
- Act as a trusted technical and commercial resource for partner sales teams, FAEs, and customers evaluating embedded hardware and connectivity solutions
- Build relationships with OEMs, engineering teams, silicon partners, and ecosystem contacts throughout the territory
- Lead customer discovery discussions to understand application requirements, development timelines, technical challenges, decision makers, commercial priorities, and production potential
- Qualify inbound and outbound opportunities by assessing application fit, customer urgency, project timing, commercial value, and likelihood of moving into production
- Recommend appropriate embedded or wireless solutions based on customer needs, technical requirements, and business fit
- Own early-stage customer engagement, including discovery, solution positioning, next-step planning, and coordination with deeper technical resources where required
- Help progress qualified opportunities through the full design cycle, from first conversation through design-in, validation, and production planning
- Partner with Field Applications Engineers and internal technical teams on deeper integration, architecture, or troubleshooting activities while maintaining commercial ownership of the opportunity
- Generate and develop new business opportunities through outbound activity, distributor collaboration, inbound lead follow-up, and analysis of existing or dormant accounts
- Maintain accurate CRM records including customer discussions, opportunity stages, committed next steps, pipeline status, and commercial updates
- Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, marketing, engineering, and operations teams to support customer success and business growth
- Provide market feedback and customer insight to help improve messaging, technical collateral, and go-to-market activities
QUALIFICATIONS
- Engineering or technical background with exposure to embedded systems, wireless connectivity, IoT hardware, semiconductors, or related technologies
- Ability to quickly understand technical product offerings and discuss system-level requirements with engineering customers
- Comfortable reviewing technical documentation, discussing integration considerations, and supporting customers through early-stage technical conversations
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to qualify opportunities, understand customer business drivers, and prioritize opportunities based on technical and revenue potential
- Experience working in a customer-facing technical sales, sales engineering, field applications, demand creation, or similar role
- Demonstrated ability to support or own customer opportunities through design-in, validation, and production stages
- Experience working with distributors, channel partners, OEM customers, or semiconductor ecosystem partners is highly desirable
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including engineering, purchasing, sales, and leadership audiences
- Organized and process-oriented, with experience using Salesforce or a similar CRM platform
- Self-motivated, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple customer opportunities simultaneously
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across sales and engineering organizations
