Role: Director of Battery Energy Storage (BESS)

Industry: Energy Storage

Location: Remote (USA)

We are partnered with a rapidly growing energy infrastructure company that is making significant investments in utility-scale battery energy storage across the USA.

As they scale, they are hiring a Director of BESS to provide technical leadership across project development, technology strategy, supplier engagement, and project execution activities. This is a highly visible leadership opportunity for someone who wants to influence major project decisions, shape technology direction, and work across multiple functions to support the successful delivery of utility-scale energy storage projects.

Responsibilities 🔨

  • Work directly alongside leadership to support supplier negotiations, commercial agreements, and technical exhibits (RFI, RFQ, and RFP processes)
  • Lead technical evaluations and support procurement of battery systems, EMS platforms, and other key project technologies
  • Oversee projects throughout development and pre-construction
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with OEMs, suppliers, and technology partners
  • Establish and maintain engineering standards and technical best practices
  • Identify technical risks, challenges, and opportunities across projects
  • Act as a bridge between technical and commercial teams throughout project development
  • Support projects through EPC contracting before transitioning ownership to construction and execution teams
  • Manage and scale a growing technical team

Qualifications 📑

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
  • MIN 10+ years of experience, MIN 4 years with utility-scale energy storage projects (BESS ideal)
  • MIN 1-2 years of management experience
  • Strong understanding of battery energy storage technologies and project development
  • Strong experience managing projects from development to pre-construction
  • Strong commercial and technical understanding of energy infrastructure projects
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Background working for an IPP, Developer, owner/operator, or OEM
