Role Summary
Act as a Critical Facilities Strategies Consultant for the data center industry. As a Master Planner/SME/Analyst, you will provide strategy, master planning, and consultative services for existing and proposed data centers. You will act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Electrical/Mechanical systems, assisting end-users, owners, operators, hedge funds, and investors with due diligence and operational guidance.
Responsibilities
- Interpret one-line drawings for mission-critical mechanical systems.
- Calculate maximum load capabilities based on redundant systems.
- Collect and analyze operational data from electrical and mechanical infrastructure (chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, UPS, generators, etc.).
- Identify adverse energy usage patterns and recommend efficiency strategies.
- Assess the condition and maintenance processes of large-capacity cooling and heat rejection systems.
- Identify single points of failure and recommend risk mitigation steps.
- Develop maintenance staffing plans and evaluate building monitoring/control systems.
- Evaluate fire detection/suppression and security systems.
- Work with design teams on conceptual designs for capacity expansion.
- Provide ROM (Rough Order of Magnitude) estimates for recommendations.
- Present findings to stakeholders ranging from C-Level executives to technical staff.
- Manage project delivery, quality, and financial performance.
- Represent the firm as an industry expert in symposiums and professional journals.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of data center operational experience (Hyperscale/Colocation/Enterprise).
- Applicable data center professional certifications.
- BA/BS in Engineering or Computer Science preferred.
- Expertise in interpreting mechanical one-line drawings and HVAC systems.
- Knowledge of National Electrical Code and electrical grounding systems.
- Familiarity with IT architecture (servers, network, cloud, storage).
- Strong financial analysis skills (TCO, CAPEX/OPEX budgeting).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to travel up to 50% (must live within 60-90 minutes of a major airport).
- Military veterans with electrical/mechanical experience (Navy Nukes, etc.) are highly encouraged to apply.
