Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Benefits and Payroll Manager to oversee payroll operations and employee benefits for a large, multi-state workforce. This role requires expertise in managing payroll processes for over 500 employees and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. This is a long-term contract position based in Chicago, Illinois, with a 100% remote work model.
Responsibilities
- Process and audit payroll for US, Canada, and UK employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with respective local laws and deadlines
- Administer all aspects of benefits including health, dental, vision, HSA, FSA, commuter, and ancillary programs in coordination with a benefits broker
- Oversee benefits enrollment, open enrollment, changes, and terminations, supporting employees with questions and escalated appeals
- Manage and approve benefits invoices and collaborate with finance on timely payments and reconciliation
- Ensure ongoing compliance with federal, state, and international payroll and benefits regulations, including 401(k) administration, nondiscrimination testing, and recordkeeping
- Transition payroll and benefits administration from external consultants to an internal process, supporting knowledge transfer and documentation
- Collaborate with HR Director to identify process improvements, clean up legacy processes, and streamline workflows
- Generate required reports as needed for HR, finance, audits, and compliance purposes
Requirements
- 4+ years' experience in payroll and/or benefits administration (multi-country strongly preferred)
- Demonstrated success improving processes and cleaning up legacy systems
- High accuracy, excellent communication, and strong organizational skills
- Advanced Excel/Google Sheets; ability to learn and maximize Paylocity, NetSuite, HubSpot, and Okta integrations
- SHRM certified preferred!
Compensation and Benefits
- Long Term Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000
- Benefits available to contract professionals include medical, vision, dental, and life and disability insurance.
