Job description

Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton, a global Am Law 50 firm, is seeking a Conflicts Analyst to join the Office of the General Counsel. The offices we are considering are: Century City, Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego (Del Mar), San Diego (Downtown), San Francisco, and Silicon Valley.

  • Fully remote role supporting a Pacific-time schedule. Must be located in the West Coast.

Job Summary

The Conflicts Analyst is a member of Sheppard Mullin's Office of the General Counsel. Working under the direction of the Conflicts Supervisor and other in-house counsel, the Conflicts Analyst reports on potential conflicts of interest relating to matter intake and lateral hiring.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with attorneys in the Office of General Counsel to research, analyze, and resolve conflicts of interest.
  • Review client/matter intake forms and ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Review searches and reports for clients, matters, lateral attorney candidates and/or other new business, using the Firm's conflicts and intake databases.
  • Ability to articulate in writing the key findings in the form of a summary or report.
  • Monitor and address all incoming email to shared department email inbox for urgent requests.

Required Qualifications

  • 2 years' experience within conflicts administration at a mid to large size law firm.
  • Experience with iManage, LegalKey, Intapp, or similar Conflicts administration software.
  • Basic typing skills (at least 40 wpm).
  • Proficiency with Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Ability to compile, review, filter, synthesize, and interpret information which is varied in content and format.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, and make decisions when appropriate.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply the applicable rules of professional conduct regarding conflicts of interest.
  • Strong research skills using internal and external resources.
  • Proven aptitude to quickly learn new applications.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to produce a high quality and accurate work product with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively with attorneys and staff at all levels.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience with clearing/resolving conflicts preferred (i.e. reviewing engagement letters and contacting partners).

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required.

Computer/Software Knowledge

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience with database search systems such as Elegrity (now iManage) E-VALUATE, Legal Key, and/or IntappOpen.

Work Environment

  • Working indoors with limited exposure to hazards (only those that customarily come up in working in a high-rise or office building).
  • Indoor office work environment in a cubical or like workstation.
  • You will be based in one of our local Sheppard Mullin offices but will be allowed to work from home.
  • You are required to come into the office on an as-needed basis.
  • Overtime will be required on occasion as the workload demands.

Compensation and Equal Opportunity

California: The pay range for this position is $37.00 to $56.00 per hour. Chicago: The wage range for this position is: $40.00 - $60.00 per hour. This position is eligible for medical, vision, and dental insurance. Washington DC: The pay range for this position is: $37.00 - $56.00 per hour. Medical, vision, and dental coverage is available.
