Our client is a U.S.-based manufacturing company specializing in cannabis vape products and related consumer goods. They operate in a fast-paced and highly regulated industry, focusing on delivering high-quality products while maintaining strong operational and financial processes. As the company continues to grow, they are expanding their finance and accounting team to support day-to-day accounting operations, accounts receivable management, and payroll administration in a remote-first environment.

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounts Receivable & Payroll Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations, accounts receivable processes, and payroll administration. This role is ideal for someone early in their accounting career who is looking to grow within a finance team while developing strong experience in U.S. accounting and payroll operations. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and comfortable working independently in a remote environment aligned with U.S. Eastern Time hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Post and reconcile incoming payments, including checks, ACH transfers, and credit card payments.
  • Maintain accurate accounts receivable records, customer files, and aging reports.
  • Assist with collections efforts by communicating with customers regarding overdue balances.
  • Prepare and process bank deposits and payment reconciliations.
  • Reconcile accounts receivable ledgers with the general ledger.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes.
  • Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding billing and payment issues.
  • Assist in preparing and processing U.S. multi-state payrolls.
  • Support payroll compliance efforts, including federal, state, and local payroll tax requirements.
  • Work closely with the Accounting Manager and Assistant Controller on payroll operations.
  • Assist senior accounting staff with ad-hoc accounting and finance projects as needed.
  • Maintain organized financial records and ensure data accuracy across accounting systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or currently pursuing).
  • 1--3 years of experience in accounting, accounts receivable, payroll, or related finance roles preferred.
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles and financial processes.
  • Familiarity with U.S. GAAP preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Acumatica or similar platforms preferred.
  • 2 years of experience processing U.S. multi-state payrolls.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
  • Experience using payroll platforms such as ADP, UKG, or similar systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a remote environment.
  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Availability to work 9:00 AM -- 5:00 PM U.S. Eastern Time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting remote U.S.-based accounting teams.
  • Familiarity with payroll compliance and state-specific withholding requirements.
  • Experience handling reconciliations and month-end close activities.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Located within or close to the U.S. Eastern Time Zone preferred.
