The Opportunity

StaffRight Associates has partnered with a purpose-driven, national financial services organization dedicated to providing essential protection and long-term security to families across the country. Operating with a deep philanthropic mission, this organization channels its success back into community aid and charitable initiatives.

We are seeking two forward-thinking Underwriters to join a highly collaborative, coast-to-coast team of nearly 20 insurance professionals. Operating in a 100% virtual capacity, this role offers an exceptional runway for professional growth. You will step into a forward-looking environment currently evaluating cutting-edge, automated, and accelerated risk-assessment methodologies. This position features a transparent career progression pathway designed to advance your trajectory from Underwriter to Senior Underwriter and ultimate subject matter expert.

What You'll Do

  • Evaluate Risk Profile Execution: Appraise, categorize, and determine final actions for new coverage submissions, plan modifications, conversions, reinstatements, and supplementary benefit additions for portfolios valued up to $500,000, while collaborating with senior peers on high-value applications.
  • Mitigate Adverse Selection: Analyze complex medical backgrounds and specialized hazards—including aviation risk, occupational dangers, foreign travel, and unconventional hobbies—to establish equitable premium structures and protect mortality balance.
  • Drive Stakeholder Communication: Serves as the primary informational liaison for distribution forces and internal corporate divisions, delivering clear guidance on risk evaluation standards and application processing workflows.
  • Synthesize Regulatory Standards: Ensure absolute alignment with changing state and federal insurance mandates across all daily evaluation processes.
  • Champion Process Innovation: Participate actively in team initiatives exploring the integration of modernized, automated, and accelerated risk-assessment tools.

What You Bring

  • Underwriting Expertise: A minimum of 2+ years of dedicated individual life risk assessment experience.
  • Clinical Literacy: Strong foundational comprehension of medical nomenclature and human physiological systems, with a proven ability to translate complex health histories into precise risk decisions.
  • Analytical Judgment: Superior business acumen, precise attention to detail, and a track record of making defensible, autonomous decisions.
  • Educational Foundation: A completed Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Professional Credentials: Completed coursework or active pursuit of industry designations such as LOMA, ALU, FALU, or FLMI is highly advantageous.
  • Communication Mastery: Polished verbal and written communication skills suitable for regular consultation with external field agents and internal leadership.
  • Legal Authorization: Valid United States work authorization is required (visa sponsorship is unavailable for this role).

Compensation & Total Rewards

Core Compensation

  • Target Salary Range: Competitively positioned between $70,500 and $120,000 annually, scaled accurately based on geographic location, specialized certifications, and depth of direct industry experience.

Performance & Equity Incentives

  • Performance Rewards: Eligibility for organizational incentive programs based on corporate milestones and individualized quality metrics.

Health & Wellness Perks

  • Medical, Dental, & Vision: Top-tier comprehensive health plans with multiple coverage tiers, including premium family protection.
  • Tax-Advantaged Accounts: Pre-tax Health Savings Accounts (HSA) supplemented by direct corporate contributions.
  • Disability & Life Coverage: Employer-sponsored, fully paid short-term disability and term life insurance plans, alongside long-term disability protection.
  • Family Support: Up to 12 weeks of paid childbirth leave under the short-term disability structure, plus an additional week of fully paid parental leave extending to all new parents (including adoptive and foster placements).
  • Wellness Reimbursement: Financial subsidies for health club and fitness memberships, paired with a confidential Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for mental well-being.

Future Planning

  • Retirement Matching: Generous 401(k) savings program featuring dollar-for-dollar corporate matching contributions.
  • Company-Funded Pension: A distinct cash balance retirement plan fully funded and sustained by the organization.
  • Professional Development: Financial backing for specialized industry certifications, professional designations, and a robust tuition reimbursement program.

Work-Life Balance

  • Time Away: Highly competitive paid time off structures including vacation days, sick leave, and 13 paid annual holidays.
