The Role

Join the Oregon Department of Transportation as a program manager to lead statewide maintenance-related technology initiatives. You will plan, develop, implement, and manage strategies for automated vehicle location (AVL)/Telematics for winter maintenance and other key projects. This role focuses on improving public and employee safety and optimizing resources through technology.

This is a limited duration appointment expected to end on or before December 31, 2027, with the potential to become permanent.

A Day in the Life

  • Develop implementation strategies for highway maintenance technologies, including AVL/Telematics, GIS applications, and Maintenance Management Systems (MMS).
  • Review business needs, quality management, and legislative requirements related to technology procurement and operation.
  • Oversee the AVL/Telematics program, monitor results, and initiate corrective actions.
  • Manage project teams, including scope, objectives, schedules, budgets, and risk management.
  • Travel to field locations to meet with staff and review equipment installations.
  • Research technology trends to formulate policies and suggest legislative changes.
  • Act as a bridge between maintenance staff needs and technical staff solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Any combination of experience and education equivalent to seven years of experience that supports the required knowledge and skills; OR
  • A bachelor's degree in business, public administration, social sciences, finance, or related fields, AND four years of professional-level evaluative, analytical, and planning work.

Special Qualifications

  • A valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record are required.
