- Salary: $6,259.00 - $8,415.00 Monthly

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is looking for a journey-level professional for our Northeast Region. You will tackle engineering challenges that standard highway engineers rarely touch, based in rural Colville, WA. You will design and manage critical forest road networks, conduct structural bridge inspections, and engineer innovative fish passage structures.
Duties
- Contract Management: Lead the preparation and technical review of timber sale road construction contracts. Provide expert support for developing construction contracts, road plans, and specialized support for timber sale compliance. Review timber sale road plans prepared by District Engineers.
- Fish Passage: Identify and mitigate fish blockages on Region road infrastructure. This includes assessment, permitting, cost estimation, design, contract preparation, construction compliance, and monitoring.
- Road Maintenance: Design solutions for maintaining and repairing forest roads to meet Forest Practices standards.
- Leadership: Supervise up to two Civil Engineer 2's, one engineering aide, and one heavy equipment operator. Manage workflow, leave requests, and timesheets.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's of Science degree in Civil or Forest Engineering, or other closely related field, AND two years of Forest Engineering experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Experience in timber harvesting, forest road layout, and logging practices.
- Knowledge of Forest Practices and rules.
- Experience interpreting and creating written, oral, and graphic directions, maps, plans, drawings, and specifications.
- Experience with contract development and administration for road construction, maintenance, and abandonment.
- Knowledge of logging and construction equipment, costs, capabilities, and uses.

Special Requirements
- Duty station is NE Region Headquarters in Colville, WA. Approximately 50% office, 50% field work. Must be able to traverse uneven terrain.
- Occasional travel required.
- Valid driver's license and two years of driving experience required. Must meet DNR driving standards.
Desired Qualifications
- Professional Engineer registration.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, ARCGIS, TraversePC, ROADENG, and other engineering programs.
- Experience with surveying tools (GPS, Total Station, transit, laser level, etc.).
- Supervision, leadership, and management skills.
