Responsibilities & Skills

We are seeking an experienced SQL Database Administrator to manage, secure, and optimize our physical, virtual, and cloud-native database environments. If you thrive in hybrid environments, love automation, and excel at performance tuning, we want to hear from you!

Location: Lansing, MI (400 S Pine St)

Work Arrangement: Hybrid (Onsite 2 days a week from Day 1). No fully remote option.

Geography: Local candidates only (Must live within 1 1.5 hours of Lansing, MI).

Interview Process: Virtual via MS Teams video (Be prepared to share screen/laptop required).

Core Responsibilities & Required Skills

Database Infrastructure & Recovery (3-5 Years)

  • Implement native, cloud-native, and hybrid cross-site backup and recovery strategies.
  • Install and configure SQL Server on physical hardware, VMs, and cloud IaaS.

Security & Compliance (3-5 Years)

  • Enforce data masking, Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), and Row-Level Security (RLS).

Performance Tuning & Maintenance (3-5 Years)

  • Identify bottlenecks, rewrite T-SQL, and resolve locking/blocking issues.
  • Manage automated indexing, statistics, and integrity checks across fragmented systems.

Automation & Cloud Metrics (2-3 Years)

  • Automate environments using PowerShell, dbatools, and Cloud CLIs.
  • Monitor performance metrics across physical servers, IaaS VMs, and PaaS endpoints (Azure SQL / Managed Instances or AWS RDS).
  • Manage connectivity between on-premises and cloud systems.

Bonus Skills (Preferred)

  • Experience with Cloud Migration tools (Azure DMS / AWS SMS).
  • Database CI/CD versioning via Azure DevOps/GitHub Actions using Flyway or Redgate.
