About The Role
We are seeking a talented and innovative Design Engineer to join our Web Presence and Platform team. In this role, you will be responsible for conceptualizing, prototyping, and developing engaging digital experiences for stripe.com and related web properties. Your work will play a crucial part in shaping Stripe's digital identity, ensuring that our online presence is not only visually compelling but also highly functional and performant. You will collaborate closely with designers, engineers, and product teams to create new features and maintain existing web assets, all while adhering to our design systems and best practices. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence how millions of users perceive and interact with Stripe's brand, making every pixel count and pushing the boundaries of web technology to deliver best-in-class user experiences.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of relevant web front-end development or creative technology experience at a tech-forward, product-driven company
- Advanced knowledge of modern HTML and CSS
- Proven experience writing clear, elegant, and maintainable code within a team environment
- A portfolio demonstrating expertise in web design, frontend code, and innovative digital projects such as design systems, microsites, webGL experiments, or CSS art
- Experience designing and building public-facing websites that function seamlessly across multiple browsers and devices
- Strong understanding of the formal elements of design, including typography, layout, balance, and proportion (preferred)
- Proficiency with React, focusing on interactions, animations, performance, and visual polish (preferred)
- Experience with A/B testing, accessibility testing, or synthetic monitoring (preferred)
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with designers and cross-functional partners to create innovative web experiences and maintain stripe.com
- Work closely with fellow design engineers, engaging in pair programming, mentoring, and fostering a culture of excellence
- Prototype and implement web animations, interactions, and dynamic content for product launches and campaigns
- Build visually stunning and highly functional end-user experiences that address complex challenges
- Utilize, extend, and maintain our design systems to ensure consistency and quality across web assets
- Integrate our web platform with self-serve content management and experimentation tools to enable rapid testing and iteration
