About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead DevOps Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining virtual infrastructure supporting mission-critical health IT solutions. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with AWS, Terraform, Windows Server, and containerization technologies. You will lead a team of engineers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality solutions aligned with project requirements and best practices. This is a remote position, offering flexibility to work from anywhere within the United States, with occasional onsite meetings in Woodlawn, MD. As a key player in our team, you will collaborate closely with stakeholders, mentor junior staff, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize our infrastructure and deployment processes.

Qualifications

• Ability to obtain a U.S. Federal Position of Trust clearance.
• Must reside in and be authorized to work in the United States.
• Residency in the U.S. for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of 8+ years of overall experience in DevOps, cloud engineering, or related roles.
• At least 6 years of experience working with Kanban and agile tools such as Jira, Git, and Confluence.
• Extensive hands-on experience with Terraform for infrastructure as code.
• Strong expertise in Windows Server administration (2019/2022), including IIS, Active Directory, and Group Policy.
• Proven experience in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for .NET and Node.js applications deployed to AWS ECS and Lambda.
• Deep knowledge of AWS services such as ECS (Fargate and EC2), Lambda, API Gateway, CloudFront, RDS, and VPC networking.
• Experience deploying, configuring, and managing Apache NiFi data pipelines for healthcare data integration.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell and Bash for automation tasks.
• Leadership experience managing a team of at least 2 direct reports, with responsibilities including performance management and mentorship.
• Strong communication skills, capable of representing technical teams to federal stakeholders and managing expectations.
• Willingness to support production issues during weekends or off-hours as needed.
• Possession of or willingness to obtain an AWS Professional Certification within 60 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of DevOps engineers, ensuring delivery of infrastructure and deployment solutions on schedule and within scope.
• Implement and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for cloud practices and infrastructure management.
• Act as a technical role model, demonstrating best practices in infrastructure automation, security, and deployment.
• Oversee the management of Jira/Kanban boards, ensuring tickets are well-defined, prioritized, and tracked effectively.
• Mentor team members, fostering professional growth and establishing technical standards across the team.
• Participate actively in technical tasks, dedicating at least 75% of your time to hands-on engineering work.
• Coordinate with stakeholders and attend customer calls to clarify requirements and provide status updates.
• Ensure all work is properly documented, with code commits and PRs linked to Jira tickets for traceability.
• Uphold customer SLAs and respond promptly to emails, Slack messages, and incident reports.
• Conduct regular standups aligned with Kanban workflows, recording meetings and ensuring team attendance.
• Report performance issues or project risks to leadership immediately, proposing solutions when appropriate.
• Contribute to the growth and maturity of the practice by sharing knowledge and best practices across teams.
• Support high-severity issues in production, including off-hours troubleshooting and resolution.
• Promote automation and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance deployment reliability and efficiency.
