Insurance Billing Specialist

Job Summary

This is a 6-9 month contract position to support automation within the business office. Contract needs may extend longer. This is a 100% remote role, with a preference for candidates located in Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin. Candidates in the Midwest are also considered.

Role Focus: Hospital Insurance Billing/Follow Up

• Assist with hospital billing, focusing on smaller volume, higher dollar amounts.
• Experience in hospital billing and denial follow-up is preferred.
• Previous Iowa or Illinois Medicaid experience is preferred.

About the Role

The Insurance Billing and Follow Up Specialist II is responsible for all billing and follow-up functions. This includes investigating payment delays due to no response, denied, rejected, or pending claims, with the goal of maximizing reimbursements and ensuring timely claim payments. This position requires strong decision-making skills regarding complex claims processing workflows and regulations, utilizing data from multiple sources. An understanding of the entire Revenue Cycle and the ability to interact with Government and Commercial insurances are necessary to evaluate billing and follow-up issues effectively.

Daily Duties

• Resolve billing errors/edits, including accounts with Stop Bills and "DNBs," to ensure timely claim filing.
• Ensure accurate daily claim transmission and that all appropriate documentation is sent when required.
• Verify eligibility and claims status for unpaid claims.
• Review payment denials and discrepancies, taking appropriate action to correct accounts/claims.
• Respond to customer service inquiries.
• Perform charge corrections as necessary to ensure accurate billing for previously incorrect services.
• Submit replacement, cancel, and appeal claims to third-party payers.
• Provide timely feedback to management on identified claims issues, repetitive errors, and payer trends to expedite claims adjudication.
• Work assigned queues according to departmental guidelines.
• Contact patients for necessary information to ensure timely claim processing/payment.
• Work directly with third-party payers and internal/external customers for effective claims resolution.

Additional Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Experience with payer platforms.
• Billing/follow-up experience OR experience working for a clinic using EPIC.

• Medical billing experience.

Pay and Benefits

• Pay Range: $19.00 - $22.00/hr
