Job description
Overview
- Location: 100% Remote
- Contract Duration: 6 Months
- Employment Type: W2 Only (No C2C)
- Pay Range: $65.00 - $80.00/hr
Responsibilities
- Serve as a Confluent Cloud and Kafka team member to design, install, deploy, and administer the platform.
- Provide 24x7 support when on call.
- Partner with the architecture team to drive platform alignment to modern architecture practices.
- Patch, create roadmaps, and assist junior engineers.
- Build automation for installation and platform management activities, such as restarts, patching, and other scenarios.
Requirements
- 5+ years in platform engineering and management involving Middleware technologies with a focus on Confluent Cloud and Kafka.
- 3+ years of experience with installation, configuration, and administration of Confluent Cloud or Kafka.
- 3+ years of experience with UNIX and LINUX operating systems, storage environments, file systems, and network protocols.
- 3+ years of strong understanding of distributed systems using messaging platforms.
- 2+ years of creating documentation that enables other team members to learn and execute platform engineering and management activities.
Core Competencies
Technical Skills
- 3+ years of experience in production support for Confluent or Kafka platforms, including troubleshooting and fixing production defects.
- 3+ years applying DevSecOps and Infrastructure as Code patterns to build automation.
- Experience with GitHub or comparable code repositories.
- 3+ years of experience with Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, and other infrastructure automation technologies.
Soft Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to take end-to-end responsibility for issues and drive them to closure.
- Understanding of change management procedures.
- Embrace and demonstrate an automation-first approach.
- Strong team player committed to knowledge sharing.
Preferences
- Bachelor's degree.
- Proficiency in Linux commands and tools for troubleshooting and log analysis.
- Experience with application profiling (e.g., Dynatrace, VisualVM, Jprofiler).
- Experience with performance tuning for JVMs, web containers, and DB connection pools.
- Understanding of modern work practices: DevSecOps, CI/CD, Agile project delivery, and Release Engineering.
