Who We Are Seeking
We are searching for a part-time intern responsible for assisting with day-to-day marketing and communications that advance our mission and brand. The intern is hands-on, detail-oriented, and filled with creative energy while aligning with organizational strategy. In collaboration with the Marketing and Communications Officer, the intern is responsible for content development of communications including social media platforms, donor solicitations and stewardship reports, event promotions, and other communications. This role is designed for a motivated student interested in nonprofit work, communications, and community impact. This role will report to the Vice President, Development and External Engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Communications & Media Support
- Assist in capturing content (photos, videos, short-form storytelling) at events and programs
- Support development of social media and digital content as well as other marketing materials, including press releases, donor solicitations, etc.
- Help organize and maintain media assets for organizational use
- Collaborate with communications staff to elevate stories from the field
Program & Organizational Support
- Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for improving communication strategies
Professional Development
- Gain exposure to nonprofit operations, fundraising, and community engagement strategies
- Receive feedback and guidance to support career development
Additional Considerations
- This role is primarily in-person, with potential travel to local events
- Flexibility to support occasional evening events
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the internship, the intern will:
- Gain hands-on experience in community engagement and nonprofit programming
- Develop skills in digital storytelling and communications
- Build professional connections within the nonprofit sector
Job Requirements and Qualifications
- Current college student majoring in philanthropy, nonprofit management, marketing or communications (valid college enrollment will be required).
- Track record of producing compelling written, digital, and visual content (press releases, op-eds, social campaigns, reports, toolkits).
- Experience in marketing, communications, nonprofit management or a related field preferred but not required.
- Proficiency with Canva (or similar design tools), website content management systems and social media platforms.
- Strong writing and editing skills, with an ability to adjust voice and tone for different audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail and deadlines.
- Comfort with video and photography (using a mobile phone) and basic photo editing for event and social media use.
- Ability to collaborate with a small, supportive team while also working independently.
Working Conditions
Essential functions are regularly performed in an office setting without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
Physical Conditions
- Sitting at a desk the majority of the day.
- Some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds).
- Tasks may involve extended periods of time at keyboard or workstation.
- Tasks require the ability to perceive and hear sounds and see visual cues or signals.
- Tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
What You Get
- $20/hr minimum and a flexible, hybrid work arrangement.
- Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at the home base located in Hamilton County, 11999 Lakeside Drive, Fishers IN. Monday and Friday are work from home unless in-person attendance is required.
