About the Role
The Principal Business Analyst, Fraud is responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing fraud prevention strategies that protect customers and the organization from financial crime while maintaining an exceptional customer experience. This role leverages advanced analytics, fraud strategy, business intelligence, and cross-functional collaboration to identify emerging fraud trends, enhance application fraud defenses, and continuously improve fraud detection capabilities across the customer lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
Fraud Strategy & Risk Management
- Design, develop, and implement application fraud prevention strategies.
- Build real-time fraud detection rules and defense mechanisms.
- Continuously optimize fraud controls to minimize financial losses while maintaining a seamless customer experience.
- Identify vulnerabilities within fraud prevention processes and recommend strategic improvements.
- Support the ongoing evolution of enterprise fraud risk management practices.
Fraud Analytics & Investigation
- Analyze application and lending data to identify emerging fraud patterns and criminal behaviors.
- Investigate fraud incidents to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Evaluate fraud losses, operational performance, and defense effectiveness.
- Monitor evolving fraud techniques and recommend proactive mitigation strategies.
- Generate actionable insights that improve fraud detection performance.
Data Analysis & Business Intelligence
- Utilize SQL, Python, and analytical tools to extract, analyze, and interpret complex datasets.
- Develop dashboards and reporting solutions to monitor fraud strategy performance.
- Track key performance indicators including fraud coverage, pause rates, step-up completion rates, defense performance, and fraud losses.
- Ensure data accuracy and integrity across reporting platforms.
- Present analytical findings and strategic recommendations to business stakeholders.
Strategy Testing & Optimization
- Design and execute A/B testing and Champion/Challenger experiments for fraud strategies.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of fraud detection models through data-driven analysis.
- Optimize fraud rules and decision-making processes based on testing outcomes.
- Improve operational efficiency while minimizing customer friction.
- Support continuous enhancement of fraud prevention methodologies.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Operations, Product, Data Science, Engineering, and Risk teams to strengthen fraud prevention capabilities.
- Collaborate on initiatives that improve customer protection and business performance.
- Translate analytical findings into practical business recommendations.
- Support enterprise-wide fraud prevention and risk management projects.
- Build strong partnerships across technical and business functions.
Business Analysis & Process Improvement
- Analyze complex business challenges and develop data-driven solutions.
- Frame business questions, develop hypotheses, perform analysis, and present recommendations.
- Identify opportunities to improve fraud operations and analytical processes.
- Support implementation of technology-driven process improvements.
- Promote best practices for fraud analytics and business intelligence.
Reporting & Performance Monitoring
- Develop executive reports and performance dashboards.
- Monitor fraud strategy effectiveness against organizational objectives.
- Present key findings and recommendations to leadership teams.
- Ensure timely reporting of fraud metrics and operational outcomes.
- Support strategic planning through actionable business insights.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Economics, Finance, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Three or more years of experience in business analytics, risk management, fraud analytics, data science, or a similar analytical role.
- Experience analyzing credit card or consumer lending products.
- Hands-on experience designing and executing A/B testing or Champion/Challenger testing.
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience using SQL, Python, or other data analysis tools.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
- Proven ability to solve complex business problems from analysis through implementation.
Preferred
- Direct experience in fraud strategy and fraud analytics.
- Advanced proficiency with SQL and Python.
- Experience within fintech, banking, or consumer lending environments.
- Experience supporting high-growth or startup organizations.
- Knowledge of fraud detection methodologies and risk management frameworks.
- Experience developing executive dashboards and business intelligence reporting.
