Senior Backend Engineer

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll be at the heart of Trepp's data ecosystem. You'll leverage open-source frameworks and cloud-native technologies to build resilient, high-performance data solutions that support both internal teams and client-facing applications. This is a highly collaborative role --- you'll partner closely with product and engineering teams to tackle complex problems and deliver impactful, scalable solutions.

Core Responsibilities

  • System Architecture & Design: Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure backend services and optimize data for APIs, MCPs, data feeds, and event-based delivery mechanisms.
  • Database Management: Optimize database interactions, schema design, entity relationships, and performance for high-throughput, data-intensive systems.
  • Code Quality & Standards: Write clean, efficient, and well-tested code, setting engineering standards for code reviews and documentation.
  • Mentorship & Leadership: Mentor junior/intermediate engineers, providing technical guidance to unblock teams and foster growth.
  • Performance & Reliability: Troubleshoot complex production issues, enhance observability (logging/monitoring), and ensure system uptime.
  • Collaboration: Work with frontend engineers, product managers, and DevOps to deliver end-to-end features and improve CI/CD pipelines.

Key Requirements

  • Experience: 5 years in backend development, ideally in high-growth or consumer-facing environments
  • Technical Proficiency: Deep understanding of server-side languages and frameworks
  • Database Expertise: Strong, demonstrable knowledge of OpenSearch, Redis, and PostgreSQL
  • Infrastructure: Familiarity with AWS, Kubernetes, and microservices architecture; index optimization for API delivery
  • Event-Driven Systems: Experience with messaging technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ
  • Security: Strong understanding of software security best practices
  • Education: BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5 years of experience in application development
  • 3 years of experience with big data technologies
  • 3 years of experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • 2 years of experience with Elasticsearch or OpenSearch
  • Experience with Agile methodologies, SDLC, Git workflows, and CI/CD pipelines

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years of application development using Python, SQL, Scala, or Java
  • 2 years working with real-time data and streaming systems
  • 2 years of experience with SQL databases such as Postgres or Aurora
  • 2 years of experience with NoSQL databases like DynamoDB, MongoDB, or Cassandra

Salary Range:

  • Base salary starting from $180k plus bonus eligible

Workplace Policy:

Trepp's offices follow a 3-2 hybrid-working policy with the expectation of in-office work on Tuesday-Thursday and the option to work from home on Monday and Friday.
