Job description

VP of Engineering

Location: U.S. (Remote)

Stage: High-growth fintech

Focus: Payments rails | Real-time infrastructure | Stablecoin settlement

The Opportunity

We're working with a fintech that's quietly building the plumbing for how money will actually move over the next decade.

Not just another payments company - they sit at the intersection of traditional rails (ACH, RTP, FedNow, card networks) and programmable money via stablecoins.

They've hit product-market fit, volume is ramping fast, and now they need someone to take the engineering org from "this works" → "this scales globally without breaking."

Why this is interesting

  • You're not maintaining legacy rails - you're redefining how they connect to the future
  • Real-world problems: money movement, settlement, reconciliation, finality (not vanity metrics)
  • Blending fiat + stablecoin settlement into a single, intelligent system
  • Proper distributed systems challenges:
    • Idempotency under failure
    • Ledger correctness
    • Real-time vs batch trade-offs
  • A genuine 0→1→scale journey - not a finished platform
  • You'll shape the org, the architecture, and the roadmap - not inherit constraints you can't change

What you'll do

  • Set the technical direction for a modern payments platform spanning multiple rails
  • Build and scale the engineering org from ~30 to 100+ (without breaking culture)
  • Own systems that move real money, in real time - reliably
  • Lead development of stablecoin settlement infrastructure (wallets, ledgering, on/off-ramps)
  • Ensure everything reconciles - because in payments, "almost correct" = broken
  • Partner with Product + Compliance to ship regulated, high-trust systems
  • Make the big calls: architecture, hiring, scaling strategy

What they're looking for

  • You've led engineering at VP / Head level (or you're a Director already operating there)
  • You understand payments at a systems level --- not just APIs, but how money actually moves
  • Experience with ACH / RTP / FedNow / cards / settlement flows
  • Exposure to (or strong curiosity about) stablecoins / blockchain-based settlement
  • You've built high-scale, event-driven systems that can't go down
  • You can scale teams and systems at the same time
  • You're comfortable where things aren't fully defined yet - and you fix that

Tech (high level)

  • Backend: Node.js / TypeScript, Go, Python
  • Infra: AWS / GCP, Kubernetes, Terraform
  • Architecture: Event-driven, Kafka, microservices
  • Core systems: ledgering, reconciliation, transaction processing

Comp

  • Strong base + meaningful equity
  • Built to attract top-tier fintech leadership

Why this role actually matters

Most companies build features.

This team is building infrastructure that other companies build on top of.

If they get it right, they don't just process payments - they become part of the rails themselves.
