The UW Medical Center-Montlake Outpatient Oncology Department has an outstanding opportunity for a Social Work Assistant.

Work Schedule

  • Full-Time / 40 hours per week
  • Day Shifts
  • This is a hybrid position - 3 Days a week (M, T, F) on-site Montlake Main Hospital; 2 Days a week (W, Th) remote

Position Highlights

  • As a member of the Ambulatory Oncology Team, the Social Work Assistant position provides clinical and administrative support to a team of outpatient oncology social workers.
  • Assist with case management, resources, and referrals to internal and external community services based on patient needs.
  • Ideal candidates have experience working in a medical setting, demonstrate strong multi-tasking and organizational skills, oral and written communication, and computer proficiency. Must work well with a variety of persons and teams and possess excellent customer service skills.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Be comfortable working directly with patients and families in active cancer treatment.
  • Manage a referral pool and respond to patients who screen positive for SDOH (Social Determinates of Heath) needs on the "Supportive Cancer Care Screening" given to all new oncology patients.
  • Collaborate with the social work and medical teams on patient needs as they are identified during treatment.
  • Develop knowledge, update resources and provide patient education on oncology specific resources and programs.
  • Assist patient/family with basic community resources and assist with applications as needed for transportation, Medicaid lodging, UW financial assistance, oncology grant programs, etc.
  • Work with fiscal specialist to manage and track the "Oncology Donor Fund" grant program.
  • Attend interdisciplinary team meetings as needed for covered oncology clinics as well as SW&CC meetings.

Required Position Qualifications

Bachelor of Social Work or a Bachelor's Degree in the behavioral sciences AND two years experience in the social work field.

OR

an Associate of Arts Degree in the behavioral sciences AND four years of work experience in the social work field.

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
