Position Overview

UNM Medical Group Inc is seeking a full-time Accounts Receivable Tech 3 to join our Revenue Department. This is a remote position; however, the selected candidate must have a permanent address and live in New Mexico or be willing to relocate to New Mexico.

Compensation

  • Salary Range: Minimum $38,263 – Midpoint $47,818 (determined by years of relevant experience).
  • Status: Full-time (1.0 FTE / 40 hours per week).

Role Responsibilities

The Accounts Receivable Tech 3 is responsible for posting receipts into our billing system from Explanation of Payment (EOP) documents from insurance companies and patient payments. We utilize both electronic postings (835s) and manual posting methods.

  • Productivity & Quality: Staff are measured by weekly productivity averages and quality checks to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Training & Workflow: Training is conducted initially face-to-face, then via Zoom/Teams. We hold weekly team meetings and monthly 1:1 reviews.
  • Process: Employees will start with a few insurance payers and gradually expand their scope over a 4–7 month onboarding period.
  • Core Tasks:
    • Work credits or overpayments from insurance companies and patients.
    • Perform complex analyses of patient accounts, payments, and remittance advices.
    • Post complex account adjustments and transfers.
    • Initiate correspondence to responsible parties or third-party payers.
    • Provide mentorship to lower-level staff.
    • Analyze and investigate reimbursements or refund requests from Medicare, Tricare, Medicaid, Salud, HMOs, and others.
    • Compile and submit appeals.
    • Perform daily and monthly reconciliations to the general ledger.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience related to the duties specified.
  • Substitution: Completed degrees from an accredited institution above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Preferences: Knowledge of posting payments, resolving denials via 835/EOB/EOP, and processing claims/bills/invoices.
