Role Overview
The candidate will work closely with members of the Systems Integration, Health Data Visualizations, and Database Administration teams as well as STD / HIV program staff. We are seeking a self-motivated, team-oriented professional capable of working under limited supervision to design processes, create specifications, develop ETL processes, and manage stored procedures, advanced queries, and reports.
Daily Duties & Responsibilities
- Participate in a team providing STD/HIV system and data migration support, data pipeline improvement, data warehousing, and reporting.
- Plan, design, configure, and develop processes, including SSIS and script coding, and automation of data flows.
- Coordinate with IT management, vendors, and staff to ensure accurate and timely completion of assignments.
- Advise staff on code conversions, database/query design, optimization, and automation.
- Rewrite existing SAS solutions to conform to best practices and improve performance.
- Prepare and maintain process documentation, data flows, and diagrams.
- Perform gap analysis and gather functional requirements with end users.
- Assist with project management, including estimates and status reporting.
- Manage SQL stored procedure creation, advanced query design, debugging, and optimization (MS T-SQL).
- Parse multiple data formats including XML, CSV, SOAP, and HL7.
- Monitor production processing and ensure system uptime for critical components.

- 3+ Years: MS T-SQL (Stored Procedures, Advanced Queries, Optimization)
- 3+ Years: ETL Process Development
- 1+ Year: SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
- 3+ Years: Report Development
- 3+ Years: Data Warehousing & Relational Databases
- 1+ Year: HL7 v 2.3.1 - 2.5.1 and ORU Messages
- 3+ Years: XML
- 3+ Years: MS SQL Server 2016+
- 1+ Year: Security and data classification (CDC, HIPAA, CJIS, PHI, PII)
Environment & Tools
- Microsoft SQL Server (2016+), T-SQL, SSMS
- SSIS and ETL/Data Pipeline development
- Data Warehousing and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI)
- HL7 v2.x, XML, CSV
- Healthcare/public health data systems (e.g., EDSS, eHARS)
- SAS (legacy processes)
Preferred Skills
- Ability to manage large data sets (1 TB+)
- Requirements Gathering & Documentation
- Public Health / Disease Surveillance Systems Experience
- Statistical Analysis System (SAS)
- LOINC / SNOMED
- Fastq Files and Demultiplexing
- R & R Studio
