JOB SUMMARY

UT Southwestern Medical Center has a new opportunity available for a Central Registration Specialist. This position will work within the Ambulatory Patient Financial Clearance - Revenue Cycle Department team. The goal of this role is to work under moderate supervision to be responsible for all pre-registration, insurance verification, authorization, and front-end revenue cycle operations to ensure a satisfactory billing experience for health system patients. The successful candidate will work under moderate supervision and will be responsible for the following:

  • Pre-registration
  • Insurance verification
  • Authorization
  • Front-end revenue cycle operations

Shift: 8am-5pm

Work From Home (WFH): This is a work-from-home position to include training. Applicants must live within the state of Texas. Additional details shall be discussed as part of the interview process.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Required

  • Education
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience
    • 1 year healthcare experience, preferably directly related to benefits, insurance verification, etc.

Preferred

    • Bachelor's Degree

JOB DUTIES

  • Reviews, verifies, and obtains demographic, guarantor, subscriber, and payor information to successfully complete benefits verification, authorization, and precertification processes.
  • Coordinates with patient, referring location, scheduled service area, financial counselors, and others as appropriate to obtain additional information or provide an update on patient's financial status.
  • Counsels' offices and/or patients when an "out of network" situation becomes apparent or other potential payor technicalities arise.
  • Coordinates with Financial Counselor, clinic, patient, or other appropriate party to identify funding source and additional information needed to secure accurate third-party billing and/or patient financial responsibility.
  • Ensures that 1) patient is aware of financial obligations, projected long-term costs of care; 2) ensures that patient has access to financial education material; 3) ensures that patient has signed the appropriate financial waivers acknowledging financial obligation.
  • Provides financial planning and counseling to patients and families in order to obtain payment for services rendered in accordance with policies and guidelines.
  • Works closely with various agencies and departments throughout the health system to ensure correct billing as well as effective patient account resolution.
  • Ensures accuracy and compliance with system policies related to data collection, patient and family education, patient rights and responsibilities, legal consents, and release of information.
  • Maintains compliance with JCAHO, patient responsibilities and rights, HIPAA, and system contracts with third-party payors.
  • Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: (a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; (b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; (c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing, or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or (d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing, or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
