Job Summary

Vail Resorts is looking to hire a Director of Gear Analytics. The Gear Analytics team sits within Vail Resorts' Enterprise Analytics function under the Chief Revenue Officer and is responsible for helping shape the strategic direction of Vail Resorts' rental business and drive topline growth. The team leverages Vail Resorts' proprietary data to generate insights about guest behavior, preferences, and experiences that create value for the business.

This role leads a small analytics team and partners closely with leaders across business teams, Operations, Finance, and Analytics to support revenue growth initiatives, steward core analytical processes, and deliver executive-ready insights. This individual should demonstrate strong business acumen, structured problem-solving, and learning agility, with the ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on analytical leadership.

Job Specifications

  • Starting Wage: $145,000 - $175,000 annual bonus equity
  • Employment Type: Year Round

Job Responsibilities

  • Strategic Analytics: Lead analyses to support growth strategies and key business initiatives. Support evolution of the Rental business, including the future of My Epic Gear.
  • Guest Insights: Leverage guest behavioral and transactional data, experience feedback, and research to deepen understanding of the Gear guest journey, identify opportunities to enhance the guest experience, and inform business strategies that drive long-term growth.
  • Performance Insights & Reporting: Oversee reporting evolution and performance insights for executive and business stakeholders; translate findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Planning & Forecasting: Partner with Finance and business leaders to support budgeting and forecasting processes through analytical stewardship and decision support.
  • Data & Capability Development: Collaborate with data enablement, engineering, and other analytics partners to strengthen foundational datasets and advance analytical capabilities.
  • Pricing Support: Provide analytical support to inform pricing strategies and evaluate business performance, including test & learn plans and measurement.
  • Leadership: Lead and develop a high-performing analytics team through coaching, prioritization, and effective feedback focused on continuous improvement.
  • Partnership: Build strong cross-functional relationships to drive shared outcomes and influence decisions across the organization.
  • Communication: Develop clear, concise, and compelling presentations and recommendations for senior leadership audiences.

Job Requirements

  • 8 years of experience in analytics, consulting, finance, strategy, or similar fields.
  • Previous experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated success applying analytics to solve strategic business problems and support executive-level decision-making.
  • Strong quantitative skills with experience deriving guest and business insights from large and complex datasets.
  • Experience with analytical tools such as SQL, Snowflake, Databricks, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or similar platforms.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and PowerPoint, with demonstrated success developing executive-ready presentations and materials.
  • Demonstrated strength in written and verbal communication, adjusting messages appropriately for a variety of audiences, including senior leadership.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills, with the ability to influence across functions and outside of direct reporting relationships.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize across multiple initiatives and stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA preferred.

Work Environment

Vail Resorts offers a 'Hybrid' work environment where employees living within 50 miles of the Broomfield office work on-site Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and have flexibility to work off-site on Mondays and Fridays. Employees living outside of a commutable distance can work remotely from British Columbia, Washington D.C., and the 16 U.S. states in which we currently operate.
