Location and Details

  • Location: Seattle, WA - King County. Region 4.
  • Work Environment: Full-time, permanent position. Office-based with remote options. Office assignment is negotiable within King County's Child Welfare Offices. Travel within Region 4 is required.

  • Salary: $61,332 - $82,440 Annually (plus an additional 5% King County premium).

The Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) is seeking a high-level professional to provide administrative support to Region 4's Regional Administrator of the Child Welfare Field Operations team. The Opportunity

Reporting to the Regional Administrator (RA), you will function as the principal assistant for administrative matters and manage complex projects. This role holds delegated authority to act in the RA's absence, including managing travel budgets, purchasing, facility management, personnel actions, and handling sensitive public or agency inquiries. Strict confidentiality is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the RA's principal assistant with delegated authority.
  • Prepare correspondence and exercise signature authority on administrative matters.
  • Compile and analyze data, reviewing staff work for completeness.
  • Coordinate and manage the RA's calendar.
  • Address public groups regarding departmental functions and policies.
  • Investigate and improve operating methods and procedures.
  • Monitor contracts for performance and compliance.
  • Participate in management meetings, record minutes, and track decisions.
  • Coordinate the policy review process.
  • Approve FTE allotments, travel requests, and equipment/service orders.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Equivalent combination of education and experience totaling five (5) years of office/clerical, secretarial, bookkeeping, accounting, supervisory, or general administrative work.

OR

One year as an Administrative Assistant 4 (AA4).

AND

  • Ability to learn and grow.
  • Ability to meet the needs of others.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely allied field AND three (3) years of administrative or supervisory experience.

Required Competencies

  • Professional teamwork and customer relationship skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, and database applications (MS Access, FamLink).
  • Ability to interpret complex travel guidelines and state policies (DCYF, SAAM, OFM).
  • Strong independent judgment, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Technical troubleshooting skills for office equipment.
  • Ability to analyze sensitive issues and provide consultation.
  • Proficiency in creating presentations, charts, graphs, and electronic forms.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
