About the Role

The Department of Ecology is seeking a leader to manage our Information Technology and Telemetry Unit (ITTU) within the Air Quality Program (AQP). You will provide strategic leadership for a highly collaborative 8-person team of IT professionals, overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance of systems critical to equitably protecting and improving air quality in Washington.

Location and Schedule

  • Location: Headquarters Office in Lacey, WA. You must live within a commutable distance from the duty station.
  • Schedule: This position is eligible for telework and flexible schedule options, with a minimum of one day per week required in the office. Schedules are subject to change based on position needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and organizational leadership for information systems integration.
  • Coordinate IT activities within the AQP, intersecting with other Ecology programs, the Information Technology Services Office (ITSO), the agency CIO, EPA, other state agencies, local clean air agencies, health departments, and Tribes.
  • Plan, design, and implement complex, large- and medium-scale environmental systems.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the ITTU, including hiring, mentoring, and performance management of technical staff.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Nine (9) years of experience and/or education related to the duties of the position, including experience in one or more of the following IT disciplines: consultation, systems development, systems analysis, database management, technical support troubleshooting, or project management.

Education

Education involving a major study in an Information Technology program or closely related field.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supervising, leading, and mentoring IT professionals.
  • Education in computer science, project management, or a related field.
  • Four years of Agile project management experience.
  • Knowledge of environmental sciences and supporting science-based business areas.
