Welcoming Neighbors Network (WNN) is seeking an energetic, collaborative Digital Campaign Strategist to join the Welcoming Neighbors Network communications hub to support Network members and partners across the nation as they strive to pass pro-housing policy.
Through coalition-building, community organizing, policy development and grassroots lobbying, Welcoming Neighbors Network member organizations advocate to legalize abundant housing options, lower the cost of housing, reduce the displacement of marginalized communities and ensure all Americans can find safe, stable housing that fits their needs and budgets. As a national network, WNN members come together to hone strategies, support one another, share lessons, replicate successes, avoid mistakes and tackle challenges creatively.
The Digital Campaign Strategist will play a central role in the communications hub, which serves as the rapid response, earned media, paid media, digital communications and messaging support center for groups focused on delivering more abundant housing policy in their communities. The team acts as an internal agency for pro-housing policy communication efforts across the nation, with a particular focus on supporting and uplifting the work of state and local organizations.
Responsibilities
- Support digital and social media components of local and state-level advocacy campaigns, in partnership with local leaders, including:
- Creating white-label content or template assets for local organizations to leverage across social media platforms, websites, and action alerts/newsletters.
- Providing rapid-response support including developing bespoke digital content (e.g. infographics, action alerts) during high-need moments in member campaigns.
- Crafting digital advertising plans, coaching local leaders on the implementation of ad strategies, and monitoring budgets and preparing reports on the performance of campaigns.
- Create and deploy compelling content for WNN's external digital communications, including:
- Generating a consistent cadence of educational content for WNN's social media accounts, following messaging best practices and prioritizing opportunities to highlight diverse community leaders and stories of community impact across the pro-housing movement.
- Proactively recommending and developing rapid-response content for WNN's BlueSky, highlighting new policy developments and leveraging trending topics.
- Staying up to date on the latest social media trends, and recommending new opportunities to leverage (e.g. launching a new LinkedIn presence, flagging trending video formats that local leaders can learn from).
- Collaborate with the communications team and policy team to monitor and shape national narratives in the social media and digital sphere, including:
- Monitoring for threats and opportunities in online discussions of housing issues, and flagging new developments for the team.
- Brainstorming opportunities, in partnership with the team, for shaping national conversations that boost public appetite for pro-housing policy, influence journalists and other influencers, promote best practices among policymakers, activists, and potential activists, and lift local success stories nationally.
- Provide project management support and drafting support for related communications projects across earned media and other platforms, under guidance of teammates, as needed.
Qualifications
(Research shows that members of marginalized groups often do not apply if they do not meet all qualifications. If you feel you can excel at this role, please apply.)
- Ideally, two to four years of combined employment in digital campaigns for issue advocacy; and/or in digital communications for federal or state candidate campaigns or governmental offices.
- Zeal for our organizational goals and strategies, including passing ambitious pro-housing policy, supporting local advocates, cultivating coalitions, and working with diverse partners.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced campaign environment, independently driving projects from concept to completion.
- Experience crafting compelling visual content (infographics, short-form video) for social media platforms.
- Strong writing skills, including the ability to turn around high-quality written content quickly.
- Experience developing and managing plans and budgets for paid advertising campaigns on Meta or other platforms.
- Experience managing a mix of proactive and rapid-response digital communications efforts.
- Experience in and interest in monitoring political discourse online.
- Sophisticated understanding of the digital media landscape and commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Dedication to participating in an inclusive, empowering organization.
- Commitment to racial and social equity, inclusion, and empowerment.
- Strong interpersonal abilities, with a willingness to collaborate across lines of difference.
- Calm under pressure and a commitment to kindness and respect.
Pay and Benefits
This is a full-time, remote work position. Occasional travel around the U.S. - an estimated two to three times per year - is expected. The salary range is $77,220 - $85,250 (depending on experience), with a comprehensive benefits package that includes 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees (and their families).
