About Wildest Dreams
Wildest Dreams is a financial operations partner helping construction companies build stronger margins through disciplined systems, operational visibility, and financial infrastructure that reflects how the business actually runs. We bring modern financial operations to construction --- an industry that has been historically underserved, and one that deserves better software, sharper systems, and real financial rigor.
We work with small construction businesses ($1M--$20M in revenue), handling everything from monthly bookkeeping and A/P / A/R to controller-level financial oversight. Job costing, WIP, retention, AIA billing, percentage-of-completion --- these are our specialties, and we treat them with the precision they demand.
We're software-forward, ambitious, and serious about the work. We move fast, hold a high bar, and have a genuinely good time doing it.

The Role
As our Accounting Operations Manager, you'll own the day-to-day accounting work for a portfolio of construction clients --- and bring real senior-level rigor to how we operate as a firm.
You'll be the most senior accounting voice on the team, partnering directly with our founder. Your fingerprints will be on every process we refine, every system we choose, and every standard we hold ourselves to. We're a young firm with serious momentum, and we want someone who'll help us scale this thing the right way.
This isn't a role where someone hands you a playbook. You'll bring your own playbook from years at an accounting firm, and we'll combine the best of what you know with how we love to work.
What You'll Own
- Full-cycle bookkeeping for multiple construction clients --- transactions, reconciliations, A/P, A/R, monthly close
- Catchups & cleanups when we onboard new clients with messy books
- Client reporting and communication --- clear, on time, and professional every time
- Process & systems improvement --- bringing best practices from your prior firm to help us level up
- Construction-specific accounting --- job costing, WIP schedules, retention, AIA progress billing, certified payroll. We'll teach you what you don't already know, and we'll fund continuing education in any areas you want to deepen.
- Software stewardship --- actively pushing us toward better tools when you see them
You're a Fit If You...
- Have 5 years of accounting experience, including meaningful time at an accounting firm or bookkeeping firm where you've juggled multiple client books simultaneously
- Have advanced QuickBooks Online expertise --- full cycle, not just data entry
- Are meticulously detail-oriented --- your work is clean the first time, and you naturally double-check yourself
- Are software-obsessed --- you live in modern tools (ClickUp, Notion, Airtable, or equivalents) and you'd rather build a system than maintain a status quo
- Are self-directed and proactive --- give you a problem and you run with it
- Welcome direct, specific feedback --- you want to keep growing, and you'd rather hear it straight than have it sugar-coated
- Stay calm under pressure --- high-stakes work brings out your best, not your worst
- Communicate clearly and concisely, in writing and on calls
- Are warm, professional, and easy to work with --- clients trust you, teammates love you
You're Probably Not a Fit If...
We say this directly because we want to save everyone time --- including you. If any of these resonate, this likely isn't the right match, and there's no judgment in that.
- You haven't worked at a firm before --- we need someone who's already practiced at juggling multiple client books and adapting to different client systems
- You feel most organized with paper notes, sticky notes, or notebooks --- software is core to how we work
- You do your best work with frequent structured check-ins and steady direction --- we're a small async team and you'd have a lot of autonomy from day one
- You'd find direct, specific feedback uncomfortable --- we believe clear, honest communication is what helps us all keep growing
- You're looking for a steadier, more predictable role --- our pace is fast and varied, and that's part of what makes the work fun
Preferred (Not Required)
- Construction industry accounting experience
- Direct experience with ClickUp, Notion, or Airtable
- Track record of recommending or implementing software/process improvements at a prior firm
Your First 90 Days
We've mapped this out so you have a clear sense of what ramping up looks like --- and so we're aligned on what good progress means.
By Day 30, you'll have:
- Completed onboarding on our internal systems, methodology, and core tooling
- Started owning the day-to-day bookkeeping for your initial client portfolio
- Begun contributing feedback and ideas on our internal processes and documentation
By Day 60, you'll have:
- Mapped existing financial processes for your client accounts and surfaced specific opportunities for improvement
- Started leading routine client communication and check-ins for your portfolio
- Documented key client workflows and quirks so they're scalable as the firm grows
By Day 90, you'll have:
- Independently developed and refined repeatable workflows for monthly close, transaction coding, and client reporting
- Begun researching and testing new tools or processes that improve client experience or internal efficiency
- Established yourself as the senior accounting voice on the team --- partnering directly with the founder on strategic decisions
Throughout your first 90 days:
- Regular 1:1s with the founder for mentorship, feedback, and growth conversations
- Continuous learning opportunities --- formal continuing education funded by us, plus internal knowledge-sharing
- Quarterly performance check-ins to identify wins, gaps, and growth areas
By the end of 90 days, you'll have transitioned from learning the ropes to actively shaping how we operate --- which is exactly the level of ownership we hire for.
The Offer
- $85,000--$110,000 annual compensation, commensurate with experience
- Fully remote, flexible asynchronous schedule
- Continuing education budget for certifications and skill-building
- A small, ambitious team that takes the work seriously and itself less so
- The chance to be an early senior hire and grow into a leadership role as we scale
- A role you can put your stamp on
This role is contract-to-hire. We start with a defined contract period and transition to full-time once we're both confident in the fit.
We respond to every applicant.
Wildest Dreams is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds.
