Job Description
The Technical Data Steward is responsible for the technical data management, governance, integrity, and quality of Human Resources data assets for the HR Data Warehouse (Azure) and its platforms. This role ensures that data is properly defined, secured, governed, and usable across systems by partnering with HR business stewards, HR Data Analytics team, engineering teams, and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
1. Data Governance & Standards
- Implement and enforce enterprise data governance policies, standards, and procedures.
- Ensure execution of governance workstreams, including metadata management, enterprise quality controls, AI-ready metadata, data quality, data lifecycle management, and policies/standards compliance.
- Monitor adherence to technical data standards and drive compliance across the business area.
2. Data Management & Technical Oversight
- Own technical data decisions on behalf of the Business Data Owner.
- Provide subject matter expertise on source systems, data stores and warehouses, ETL processes and pipelines, and business intelligence tools.
- Ensure proper implementation of data across systems and platforms.
3. Metadata, Lineage & Cataloging
- Build and maintain a data catalog, including metadata and business glossary.
- Ensure data definitions, rules, and standards are clearly documented and consistently applied.
- Capture and maintain data lineage (end-to-end technical flows).
4. Data Quality & Issue Resolution
- Drive root cause analysis of data quality issues and coordinate resolution with Enterprise data and HR Analytics teams.
- Assist in design and implementation of data quality audits, controls, and monitoring tools.
- Plan and lead data cleansing and remediation initiatives.
5. Security & Risk Management
- Partner with Information Security, HR Data Governance, and HR Data teams to implement controls such as Role-based access (RBAC), Persona-based access, Row-level access, and encryption/data protection standards.
- Ensure data confidentiality, integrity, and availability across platforms.
6. Stakeholder Collaboration
- Partner with Business Data Stewards, Data Owners, and Data Engineering/IT teams.
- Translate business requirements into technical data solutions.
- Communicate impacts of data decisions across stakeholder groups.
Qualifications and Skill Requirements
- Ability to work seamlessly and professionally across multiple business units and with all levels of the organization.
- Oracle HCM / PeopleSoft data experience.
- Cloud data platforms (Azure Data Lake, Power BI).
- Data warehousing concepts (Azure).
- Data integration / ETL processes (SQL Server, DataBricks, Azure).
- Data quality and data lifecycle management.
- Enterprise platforms (e.g., data catalogs, BI tools, integration tools).
- Data governance frameworks and best practices.
- Metadata management, lineage, and cataloging.
- Master data management (MDM).
- Experience implementing data governance capabilities across an organization.
