Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney (Remote/Hybrid/Onsite - California)

Our client, a California-based workers' compensation defense firm, is seeking Workers' Compensation Defense Attorneys to join its growing remote team. This opportunity is ideal for attorneys with dedicated California workers' compensation defense experience who are comfortable independently managing a high-volume caseload in a fully paperless practice environment.

Position Overview

The firm is seeking attorneys with at least 1.5 years of focused California workers' compensation defense experience representing employers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators. The ideal candidate is confident handling cases from inception through resolution and thrives in a fast-paced, remote work environment. Experience taking doctor depositions and participating in trials is highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent employers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators in all aspects of California workers' compensation defense before the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB)
  • Handle hearings, conferences, mediations, and trials related to workers' compensation claims
  • Independently manage a full caseload while driving matters toward efficient and favorable resolution
  • Take and defend depositions, including medical and physician depositions when applicable
  • Draft motions, pleadings, and legal filings under California workers' compensation law
  • Negotiate settlements and develop strategic claim resolution approaches
  • Conduct legal research related to California workers' compensation statutes, regulations, and case law
  • Maintain ongoing communication with clients and adjusters regarding case strategy, developments, and status updates

Qualifications

  • 2--10 years of California workers' compensation defense experience
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Active California Bar license in good standing
  • Experience handling depositions; doctor deposition experience strongly preferred
  • Trial experience as first or second chair is a plus
  • Comfortable working in a fully remote, paperless environment utilizing dictation and case management software
  • Ability to independently manage a high-volume caseload with minimal supervision
  • Strong organizational, communication, and advocacy skills
  • Collaborative mindset when working with legal assistants and team members
  • Interest in long-term professional growth and potential leadership opportunities preferred
