About the Role

Affirm is seeking a Software Engineer I, Backend with Purchasing Power Experience to join their Credit Engineering group. This is a remote position open to candidates in the USA. Affirm is dedicated to revolutionizing credit with a focus on honesty and customer-friendliness, offering flexible buy-now-pay-later options without hidden fees or compounding interest. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing and implementing new features for the underwriting platform, collaborating closely with stakeholders to ensure high quality and performance, thereby supporting Affirm's continuous growth.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Prior professional or internship experience in designing, developing, and launching scalable backend systems.
  • Proficiency in either Python or Kotlin.
  • Familiarity with the fundamental components of distributed systems and technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
  • Proven ability to translate simple problems or business scenarios into comprehensive solutions involving multiple software components.
  • Experience in writing clear, well-tested, and extensible code.
  • Comfort navigating large codebases, debugging existing code, and providing constructive feedback through code reviews.
  • Demonstrated commitment to personal growth, with a proactive approach to seeking feedback.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
