About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Engineer to join our dynamic team at Outlier AI. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing, maintaining, and enhancing our AI automation systems that support large-scale language models and autonomous agents. Your work will directly impact the training and deployment of advanced AI systems, helping to teach them how to design, coordinate, and optimize complex workflows. You will collaborate closely with AI researchers, data scientists, and product teams to build scalable, reliable, and modular backend solutions that facilitate real-time interactions and multi-turn system behaviors. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in backend development, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for innovative AI applications.
Qualifications
- At least 2 years of experience in backend engineering, AI automation, or complex systems integration.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain production-grade software with modular architecture, including distinct services for data parsing, logic processing, and reporting.
- Strong proficiency in at least two major programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, Go, or Java.
- Hands-on experience working with SQL databases and designing scalable data storage solutions.
- Experience deploying systems in live environments, handling multi-turn interactions, and managing real-time system states.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to analyze and provide clear, technical feedback on complex system behaviors.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain backend systems that support AI automation workflows and large language models.
- Implement modular services for data parsing, logic execution, and reporting to ensure system scalability and maintainability.
- Collaborate with AI research teams to integrate new features and improve system performance in live environments.
- Build and optimize multi-stage coordination tasks, enabling AI agents to acquire data, reason, and produce outputs effectively.
- Integrate AI agents with external tools and APIs such as Supabase, Gmail, and other enterprise solutions to solve real-world problems.
- Implement persistent state management and session tracking to monitor agent progress and system interactions.
- Identify and troubleshoot subtle system failures, including privacy leaks, authority escalations, and prompt injections, ensuring system security and integrity.
- Document system architecture, processes, and technical specifications to facilitate knowledge sharing and future development.
