About the Firm

A specialist technology recruitment firm with a strong footprint across the US, UK, and Europe is looking to add a high-calibre consultant to their New York team. Backed by a well-resourced group with the feel and agility of a boutique, this business has built a reputation for doing things properly --- niche markets, deep relationships, and a culture that consistently features in "Best Companies to Work For" rankings.

The New York office is in an exciting phase of growth. Small, intentionally so, with a long-term vision of remaining an elite, high-performing team rather than scaling headcount for its own sake. This isn't a churn-and-burn environment --- it's a place where experienced recruiters can own a market, build something meaningful, and be part of a team that genuinely invests in its people.

The Market

The focus is permanent and contract recruitment across Software Engineering, Data, Product, and GTM --- primarily into Seed through Series C venture-backed technology companies in New York. The client base is warm and well-established, meaning new consultants step into a live, active desk from day one. That said, this business values builders --- people who want to grow their own network and add to what's already there, not just work what's in front of them.

What They're Looking For

The business is open to a few different profiles, but the non-negotiables are consistent billing, genuine market knowledge, and the right mentality. Specifically, they'd consider:

  • Full-desk tech recruiters with experience placing across Engineering, Data/ML/AI, Product, or GTM into start-up or scale-up environments
  • Agency recruiters who've spent time internally at a VC-backed start-up or in a talent partner capacity, and are now looking to return to agency
  • Strong 180 recruiters who've worked alongside top billers in the above markets and can demonstrate an exceptional understanding of what great looks like on the candidate side

Across all profiles, the expectation is a minimum of $300k in annual billings, sustained across at least two consecutive years --- not a single strong year. Candidates must be able to demonstrate they've won their own clients, placed their own candidates, and built something with genuine commercial intent.

For the remote opportunity specifically, the right person will need to be demonstrably self-sufficient and able to hit the ground running --- ideally with an existing client and candidate network they can activate from day one.

The Ideal Person

Beyond the numbers, this business cares deeply about who they hire. They want people who are:

  • Genuinely energised by start-up culture --- comfortable with pace, ambiguity, and founder-led environments
  • Entrepreneurial in their approach to business development --- someone who enjoys meeting clients and candidates in person, building community, and organising events and roundtables
  • Highly networked, or actively enthusiastic about building a network in the NYC tech ecosystem
  • Honest, grounded, and motivated by something more than just commission
  • Drawn to a boutique, specialist environment rather than a large corporate machine

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $80,000 -- $100,000 depending on experience
  • Open to guarantees for strong contract billers
  • Sign-on bonuses considered for the right hire
  • Hybrid working (New York): 4 days per week in-office, with office based near Union Square
  • Remote (US-based): open to strong candidates across the country who meet the above criteria

Location

New York Metro (Manhattan, Brooklyn, New Jersey, Connecticut, Long Island) or fully remote within the US for candidates who can demonstrate the required self-sufficiency and existing network.
