Job description

Brigade is a U.S.-based outsourced bookkeeping & accounting firm that partners with small businesses and nonprofits to deliver financial clarity, trusted advice, and real-time support. Their clients don't just receive accurate books --- they gain a proactive accounting partner focused on helping them make confident, data-driven business decisions.

At Brigade, accounting is deeply connected to ownership, communication, and trust. The team works in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment where accuracy, initiative, and reliability are essential. This is not a back-office bookkeeping role --- it's an opportunity to become a trusted financial partner for business owners across multiple industries.

They are currently looking for a Senior Accountant who combines strong technical accounting skills with ownership mindset, leadership potential, and confidence in client-facing communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own full-cycle accounting operations across a portfolio of U.S.-based SMB clients, managing up to 30 accounts with high accuracy and consistency.

  • Lead month-end, quarterly, and annual close processes, including financial reviews, reconciliations, and reporting.

  • Analyze financial data, identify trends and variances, and confidently present insights to clients during recurring meetings.

  • Review and oversee accounting workflows completed by junior team members, providing guidance, delegation, and quality control.

  • Act as a key escalation point for complex accounting issues, client requests, and accounting clean-up projects.

  • Maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication, problem-solving, and high-quality service.

  • Drive operational excellence by improving workflows, supporting system adoption, and maintaining internal process standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; CPA or equivalent certification is a strong plus.

  • 7 years of full-cycle accounting experience, ideally within outsourced accounting firms, multi-client environments, or fast-paced service-based companies.

  • Strong hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online and solid understanding of GAAP principles.

  • Proven experience working with U.S.-based clients, including presenting financial reports and explaining financial results.

  • Experience managing high-volume client portfolios and overseeing accounting workflows for junior team members.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.

  • Tech-savvy and comfortable working with modern accounting tools and systems (Karbon, Bill.com, payroll platforms, Microsoft 365, etc.).

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and operate successfully in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.

What Success Looks Like

  • You independently manage multiple client engagements with high accuracy and consistency.

  • You confidently review, delegate, and improve accounting workflows.

  • You proactively identify issues before escalation and provide solutions.

  • You maintain strong relationships with clients and communicate financial insights clearly.

  • You thrive in a fast-paced, real-time accounting environment without sacrificing quality.

  • You take ownership of outcomes, deadlines, and client experience.

Working Hours

This is a full-time remote position with working hours from 8:30 AM -- 5:30 PM EST, including a 1-hour lunch break. You must be able to fully overlap with EST hours.

What They Offer

  • Direct exposure to U.S.-based businesses across multiple industries --- not just transactional bookkeeping, but real involvement in financial operations and decision-making.

  • A fast-paced environment with high ownership, autonomy, and visibility across the organization.

  • Clear growth path toward leadership and client management responsibilities as the company scales.

  • Opportunity to work alongside a highly process-driven accounting team with strong operational standards.

  • Real client interaction and the ability to develop confidence in presenting financial insights and recommendations.

  • Structured onboarding, internal training, and hands-on support during ramp-up.

  • Long-term, stable opportunity within a growing U.S. accounting firm focused on building its team for the future.

Selection Process

  1. Submit your application and CV.

  2. Zoom interview with Hire5 recruiter.
