About Metas Financial

Metas Financial is a Seattle-based CPA firm serving small businesses and nonprofits. We're a small team and we're looking for an experienced bookkeeper or accounting lead to join us as a part-time 1099 contractor.

About the Role

You'll work directly with our CPA owners (Robert and Carrie) on a portfolio of clients, leading day-to-day accounting work and reviewing output from our remote bookkeeping team. You'll own monthly close work, catch issues before they become problems, and keep things moving.

The most important thing about this role: we need someone who manages their own work and gets things done on time without being prompted. We don't want to chase you for status updates or remind you that month-end is coming. If you're someone who tracks your own deadlines, surfaces issues early, and brings solutions instead of just questions, we'd like to hear from you.

What You'll Do

  • Lead full-cycle monthly close across a portfolio of small business and nonprofit clients - bank and credit card reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and financial statement preparation
  • Review work performed by other members of our bookkeeping team and provide constructive feedback
  • Oversee AP workflows in Bill.com, expense management, and payroll coordination
  • Track restricted funds, grant revenue, and in-kind contributions for nonprofit clients (we'll train on the nonprofit-specific pieces if needed)
  • Communicate proactively with clients and the team - flag issues early, propose solutions
  • Help us improve our internal processes as we grow

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • 3-5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience
  • A track record of managing your own workload without close supervision
  • Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online
  • Working familiarity with Bill.com, Expensify, Gusto, and ADP (or willingness to ramp quickly)
  • Experience reviewing the work of less-experienced bookkeepers, or readiness to step into that role
  • Clear, professional written communication
  • Authorized to work in the US, US-based, with availability during Pacific business hours

Preferred:

  • Direct nonprofit accounting experience (fund accounting, restricted vs. unrestricted net assets, grant tracking, donor revenue recognition)
  • CPA, CPA candidate, or accounting degree
  • Familiarity with WA Department of Labor & Industries and B&O tax filings
  • Raiser's Edge or other donor CRM exposure

If you don't have nonprofit experience but everything else fits, please still apply.

Logistics

  • Engagement type: 1099 independent contractor
  • Hours: ~10 hours per week, with a preference for roughly 2 hours per day Monday through Friday rather than batched sessions
  • Rate: $32-$37 per hour, depending on experience
  • Location: Fully remote, anywhere in the US
  • Time zone: Some Pacific time overlap required

How to Apply

In your application or cover letter, please answer the following:

  • Describe a time you caught and fixed an error a client or supervisor missed. What tipped you off?
  • Tell us about a challenging bookkeeping client and how you handled it.
  • How do you keep yourself on track without someone managing your day?

Applications without answers to these questions won't be reviewed.

  • The Metas Financial team

Pay: $32.00 - $37.00 per hour

Application Question(s):
