About the Role
Podcast R&D, part of Spotify's Podcast Vertical, builds top-tier tools for creators, managing platforms and features for hosting, creation, distribution, audience growth, and monetization.
This Backend-leaning Full Stack Engineer role is within the New Value area, a cross-functional team focused on identifying, launching, and scaling new content verticals and revenue models. Our goal is to transform the Podcast Vertical into a comprehensive creator and publisher platform, driving significant revenue for Spotify Premium.
You will be a key member of a distributed squad dedicated to subscriptions and fan engagement. This includes working on Synced Feeds for subscription awareness and conversion, the Spotify Open Access API (SOA) for third-party subscriptions, and new first-party subscription content products. Key initiatives for the upcoming year involve building a new scalable version of Spotify's native subscription offering, enhancing Synced Feeds, and evolving SOA to empower creators in monetizing their fan base directly on Spotify.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services using Java.
- Actively participate in creating and evolving APIs and services that connect user experiences with scalable internal infrastructure, aligning with product requirements.
- Drive improvements in system architecture, performance, and developer experience.
- Develop and enhance our user-facing layer and frontend SDKs using React/TypeScript.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, designers, and data specialists across multiple teams.
- Contribute to technical discussions and influence platform decisions.
Who You Are
- Experienced in designing and developing backend applications in Java.
- Solid understanding of React and TypeScript, with a passion for delivering end-to-end experiences and software architecture across backend, frontend, and APIs.
- Possess a growth mindset, curiosity, and a willingness to experiment. You actively share ideas and drive continuous self-improvement and team enhancement.
- Experience with infrastructure-related technologies is a plus.
- Committed to agile software development and a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong communication abilities.
- Experienced and passionate about mentoring and fostering collaborative teams.
Where You'll Be
- Flexibility to work remotely within the North American region where Spotify has a work location.
- This team collaborates within the Eastern Standard Time zone.
Compensation and Benefits
- United States base salary range: $150,000 - $189,000, plus equity.
- Benefits include health insurance, six months paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, monthly meal allowance, 23 paid days off, and 13 paid flexible holidays.
- Salary ranges are subject to future modification.
