Job description

About Dakota.Education

Dakota.Education is building the world's most exciting new education brand. We make AI-native products that teach K-12 students to read, write and think, and help US high schoolers prep for the SAT and write college essays that sound like them. We work with Penguin Random House, HarperCollins and MIT Technology Review. Our advisors come from College Board, ACT, Stanford and Dartmouth. We're a Google Accelerator alumna.

We have a clear, opinionated view: the answer to the reading recession and the college admissions arms race isn't another app --- it's an education company, built for this moment. We believe AI, built right, can help any student reach their outcomes and their dreams without offloading the thinking --- uplevelling them rather than replacing them. And we believe reading sits at the heart of everything, including college readiness.

Claude and Gemini are wired into how we work. Every team member uses it daily. We expect you to add to that infrastructure, not catch up to it.

Think Claude, but purpose-built to deliver outcomes on reading, test prep and college admissions.

The role

This is not a posting job. Dakota's story is one of the most important being told in education right now, and this role owns telling it.

  • You'll set the strategy for how Dakota shows up across every channel that matters --- Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Substack, YouTube, X, the owned blog --- and you'll write and ship the work yourself.
  • You'll write the ads as well as the organic.
  • You'll build an audience around a clear idea: that AI, used right, levels-up students rather than replaces their thinking --- that the path to any outcome, from reading age to an Ivy League acceptance, runs through real cognitive work, and Dakota is the brand that makes that work feel possible.
  • You'll show students, parents, teachers and tutors --- across every age and stage --- that Dakota is their favorite teacher or teaching assistant.
  • You'll work directly with the founder, who writes and edits in real time and has experience building education brands that inspire learners and teachers.
  • You'll partner with our Growth Marketer, who owns paid media and the funnel.

What you'll do

  • Own editorial strategy, content calendar and brand voice for Dakota across Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Substack, YouTube, X and the owned blog.
  • Personally generate the work --- captions, scripts, hooks, threads, long-form essays, newsletters, brand-voice ad copy, blog posts --- at the volume and velocity the brand demands.
  • Own AEO. Make Dakota the answer when students, parents, teachers and counsellors ask Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google AI Overviews about reading, test prep or college admissions. This is the new SEO and it lives in this seat.
  • Develop and run creator partnerships --- teachers, students, parents, tutors, admissions insiders --- to produce authentic third-party content at scale.
  • Build AI-enabled workflows using Claude and other tools that let you ship 5-10x the volume of content a traditional social lead could.
  • Translate complex ideas --- the science of reading, IRT-based assessment, admissions strategy, AI in education --- into content that lands with a parent on Instagram, a 17-year-old on TikTok and a head teacher on LinkedIn.
  • Support the founder on long-form: build a strategy around a regular cadence of Substack essays and owned blog posts that build authority and audience over time.
  • Track what works, kill what doesn't, and tell us why.

What we're looking for

  • You are a great writer and a great storyteller.
  • You can hear the difference between a sentence that sounds like a brand and a sentence that sounds like a person.
  • You understand how to build a new consumer brand from a standing start.
  • You know the difference between content that earns attention and content that just fills a calendar.
  • You think in both directions: informative authority-building and high-conversion hooks.
  • You understand AEO and how to make a brand legible to an LLM.
  • You write ads that convert and organic that builds an audience.
  • You use Claude (or comparable tools) every day and have built workflows that meaningfully change how fast and how well you work.
  • You have a point of view on what AI is good and bad at in creative work.
  • You think like a product marketer and a storyteller.
  • You believe what we believe --- that AI should uplevel students, not do their thinking for them.
  • You're senior enough in judgement to own this remit.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on short-form video production (shooting and editing yourself).
  • Background in education, edtech, publishing, journalism, or a consumer brand that broke through.
  • Direct-response copywriting experience.
  • Substack or newsletter growth from zero.

Compensation and benefits

  • Salary: $75,000-$100,000 USD (or £ equivalent for UK hires), based on experience and location.
  • Equity: Meaningful equity.
  • Holiday: 25 days plus public holidays.
  • AI tools: Any subscription you want --- we pay.

Where you'll work

Fully remote. Based in the US or UK. You must have the right to work in either the US or UK. We don't sponsor visas at this stage.
