About The Role
We are seeking an experienced and innovative AI Specialist to join our Enterprise AI organization at Humana. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing advanced autonomous agent systems capable of managing complex, real-world objectives independently. Your primary responsibilities will include designing goal-setting architectures, implementing dynamic planning systems, and collaborating across teams to ensure the safe and effective deployment of AI agents. You will contribute to scientific research and engineering efforts focused on creating reliable, interpretable, and robust AI solutions that can adapt to uncertain and open-ended environments. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of healthcare AI by developing systems that can autonomously set, pursue, and adapt goals, ultimately improving care delivery and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or a related field
- 4+ years of experience in research, ML engineering, or applied research roles focused on AI solutions
- At least 2 years of experience leading the development of AI/ML systems
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, and data analysis/data mining tools
- Experience with machine learning frameworks such as Pytorch, Jax, LangChain, LangGraph, or AutoGen
- Experience with large-scale ML systems and high-performance computing
- Strong knowledge of language modeling with transformers
- Familiarity with symbolic planning, causal reasoning, and model-based reinforcement learning
- Experience with large-scale ETL processes
Responsibilities
- Architect and implement goal-setting and decomposition mechanisms for autonomous agents operating in uncertain environments
- Design and develop dynamic planning systems, including hierarchical planning, curriculum learning, and self-refinement loops
- Collaborate on memory, tool-use, and feedback-loop designs to enable multi-step, self-directed agent behaviors
- Create evaluation frameworks to ensure alignment with human intent, long-term objectives, and operational reliability
- Prototype agents capable of interfacing with APIs, servers, search engines, databases, and real-world actuators, ensuring safety and efficiency
- Explore mechanisms to detect and mitigate goal misalignment, undesirable looping, and emergent strategies
- Work cross-functionally to integrate goal alignment with safety and operational reliability protocols
- Contribute to scientific research and engineering efforts to improve AI robustness, interpretability, and reliability across complex tasks
