About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff-level Engineer with a passion for user experience, interaction design, and frontend craftsmanship to join our dynamic team. This role involves leading frontend and UX initiatives within our Ruby on Rails monolith, working directly with Rails views using Hotwire, Turbo, Stimulus, and Tailwind CSS.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping frontend architecture, simplifying complex workflows, and creating intuitive, fast, and approachable user interfaces. This position requires high collaboration, strategic thinking, and the ability to influence cross-functional teams including Engineering, Product, and Design. As a senior member, you will also mentor engineers, define best practices, and elevate the overall quality of our frontend systems.

Qualifications

• Deep experience in building high-quality user interfaces with recent hands-on coding
• Strong fundamentals in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and browser behavior
• Experience working directly within Rails views, helpers, and partials
• Familiarity or strong interest in Hotwire, Turbo, Stimulus, and Tailwind CSS
• Preference for simple, maintainable systems over unnecessary abstraction
• Strong product and interaction design instincts
• Proven ability to simplify complex workflows and improve usability
• Experience shaping engineering patterns, conventions, and best practices
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across teams
• Ability to operate at both system and detailed implementation levels
• 10+ years of software development experience preferred, with a history of working on complex projects

Responsibilities

• Partner with the Director of Engineering and other senior engineers to define and execute the technical vision
• Lead the evolution and standardization of frontend architecture, including component design and rendering strategies
• Translate product and design requirements into elegant, maintainable user interfaces
• Simplify complex workflows to enhance usability, responsiveness, and performance
• Collaborate closely with Engineering, Product, and Design teams to develop innovative solutions
• Mentor and coach engineers to improve frontend and UX craftsmanship across the team
• Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, experimentation, and shared ownership
• Maintain a focus on code quality, testing, and documentation to ensure long-term sustainability
• Participate in agile processes, including weekly retrospectives and iterative development cycles
• Support the team in addressing complex or ambiguous frontend and UX challenges effectively
