Position Overview

Position Title: Fire Protection / Plumbing Engineer II Position Location: Remote - work virtually from anywhere in the United States

The Fire Protection / Plumbing Engineer II will collaborate with senior design staff to advance plumbing and fire protection design skills for commercial building design and construction. This role involves hands-on application in designing a wide variety of projects. You will work as part of the Engineering Team, interacting closely with the Project Management Team to produce construction documents, develop and edit project specifications, and assist in the construction administration process.

This role involves general instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new projects. You may work independently or under immediate supervision and may serve as a trade lead on routine projects of limited scope. Communication and operations will align with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives.

Essential Functions

Assist in Production of Fire Protection / Plumbing Engineering Documents (50%)

  • Perform intermediate to advanced engineering work as directed.
  • Undertake intermediate to advanced plumbing and fire protection design tasks under a senior engineer's supervision.
  • Conduct intermediate to advanced computations and analysis for plumbing systems.
  • Utilize Revit software to prepare drawings and visual aids.
  • Review and write basic sequences of operations.

Assist in Pre-Construction Activities (15%)

  • Survey existing building conditions and prepare technical reports.
  • Collect data and other information for construction documents.
  • Prepare project design and construction documents.
  • Perform basic editing and writing of project specifications.

Assist in Construction Activities (25%)

  • Collaborate within the engineering team and interact closely with the project management team.
  • Review shop drawings and submittals.
  • Review and respond to RFIs.
  • Review and complete punch lists and project close-out documents.

Reporting (10%)

  • Prepare project progress reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Update and maintain shop drawing and RFI logs.
  • Manage personal hours using company tools.

Task Completion

  • Ensure timely and on-budget completion of assigned tasks and deliverables.

Performs Other Related Duties as Assigned

Position Requirements (Intermediate level for all the following)

  • Knowledge of designing mechanical, fire protection, and plumbing systems.
  • Understanding of codes, code analysis, and specifications for mechanical, fire protection, and plumbing systems.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), with exceptional organizational skills for file management.
  • Skilled in performing and analyzing hydraulic calculations.
  • Ability to complete assignments accurately with attention to detail.
  • Aptitude for leveraging AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows, optimize operational processes, and contribute to company-wide innovation.
  • Ability to thrive in a remote environment through effective communication, organizational skills, self-motivation, proactiveness, and resourcefulness in a distraction-free workspace.
  • Adherence to company and site safety requirements.
  • Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports, and correspondence.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills (technical and non-technical information).
  • Capability to communicate effectively directly with clients and occasionally serve as the primary point of client contact.
  • Ability to work successfully as part of a team and independently with moderate supervision.
  • Capacity to work under pressure and meet close deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Travel / Relocation Requirements

  • Up to 10% travel may be required, including travel to any or all 50 US states.
  • Travel includes client sites, meetings, business development, industry conferences, etc.

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or fire protection engineering, with a sound knowledge of engineering fundamentals.
  • Minimum of three years of mechanical or fire protection engineering experience.
