- Location: Remote - work virtually from anywhere in the United States
Job Summary
The Senior Lead ICT Engineer will collaborate with design staff and oversee full-cycle ICT design activities for mission-critical hyperscale and colocation data center and smart building/city projects. This person will interact closely with organizational leadership to develop and edit project specifications and lead design development efforts.
You will be self-directed on day-to-day work, lead project teams of complex scope, help develop/manage broader programs, and assist in the development of policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
Lead ICT Engineering Design Activities (40%)
- Independently perform advanced engineering work and ICT design tasks.
- Perform advanced computation analysis for complex projects, components, and systems.
- Develop scalable fiber optic and copper plant design and determine physical layer route and utilization.
- Utilize AutoCAD and Revit software to prepare drawings and visual aids.
- Review and/or prepare book or sheet specifications.
- Manage project design teams, including resource forecasting and coordination.
- Identify potential scope changes and develop strategies to minimize impact.
- Perform QAQC peer reviews for projects where you are not the lead design engineer.
Lead Construction Activities (20%)
- Survey existing building conditions and prepare technical reports.
- Collect data for construction documents and lead the engineering team.
- Review shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, punch lists, and project closeout documents.
- Review and approve change order requests.
Business Development and Stakeholder Relations (20%)
- Develop proposals, including project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Execute the firm's client value system and ensure project compliance with company standards.
- Serve as primary client contact or Client Program Manager.
- Assist with research for technical papers for conferences and journals.
Organizational Development and Continuous Improvement (20%)
- Mentor associates and assist with training and development.
- Contribute to organizational training and standards development.
- Assist in strategic planning and the hiring process.
Technology, Digital Tools & AI-Enabled Efficiency
- Identify opportunities and lead the strategic use of technology, digital platforms, and AI-enabled tools to enhance efficiency.
- Support adoption of emerging technologies, including advanced analytics, data visualization, and digital construction management platforms.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure technology solutions align with DLB standards for data security and operational integrity.
Requirements
- Advanced knowledge of fiber optic components, cabling, and interconnect products.
- Advanced knowledge in ICT structured cabling design technologies and standards.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows and contribute to innovation.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to work successfully in a remote environment with self-motivation and proactiveness.
- Ability to effectively plan and delegate the work of others.
Education / Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or other related field.
- 13–18 years of engineering experience.
- 2+ years working on Mission Critical Data Center design projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Registered Communications Distribution Design (RCDD) Certificate.
- Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) Certification.
- Experience with Revit modeling software.
Physical Demands & Travel
- Travel: Up to 10% (may include travel to any of the 50 US states).
- Physical: Ability to move through office and critical facility environments, including tight spaces and climbing stairs/ladders. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
