Fully remote from anywhere in the United States
This is a 6-month 1099 contract position. Applicants must be US Citizens or Green Card holders.

Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Mid-Level Tool Design Engineer to support cutting-edge aerospace programs. You will be responsible for the design, modeling, and documentation of tooling solutions for complex aerospace hardware, working cross-functionally to deliver high-quality, review-ready designs.
Key Responsibilities
3D & 2D Tool Design Modeling
- Develop 3D and 2D models and engineering drawings using CREO and/or CATIA.
- Produce drawings in .CATDrawing or .drw formats per program standards.
- Ensure all models are complete, ready for peer review, and manage revisions.
Requirements Development
- Develop tooling requirements throughout the program lifecycle.
- Prepare requirements material slides in .ppt format.
- Collaborate with systems and program engineering to ensure traceability.
Design Review Content
- Create presentation slides for formal design reviews based on Concepts of Operations (CONOPs).
- Ensure content is comprehensive and aligned with design intent.
Tool Use Instructions
- Author comprehensive instruction documents for tool usage, inspection, and maintenance in .docx format.
- Coordinate with subject matter experts and safety personnel to validate content.
Procurement Support Documents
- Conduct supplier analysis and maintain Purchase Order (PO) tracking in .xlsx format.
- Document trade studies, including lead time, cost, and quality considerations.
Stress Analyses
- Perform load analyses (hand calculations or FEA) to verify structural adequacy.
- Submit FEA models in ANSYS format and calculations in Excel or MathCAD.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
- 3–6 years of experience in tool design or manufacturing within aerospace or defense.
- Proficiency in CREO and/or CATIA.
- Experience producing engineering drawings in .CATDrawing or .drw format.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and document engineering requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Strong attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with NASA, commercial space, or DoD programs.
- Familiarity with design review processes and requirements management.
- Experience with GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
- Knowledge of aerospace manufacturing (composites, machined parts, GSE).
- Experience with WindChill PLM and ITAR-controlled environments.
Compensation & Environment
- Salary Range: $65.00 to $86.00 per hour (based on experience).
- Work Environment: May require on-site presence at customer or manufacturing facilities. Some travel may be required.
